Ads.txt And Adsense Update Plus Other Stuff And Nonsense

I've just checked the date and it's been four days since I posted, oh my, how time flies when you're having fun. I use the word 'fun' loosely. It's just been hectic, which is good. It's been many years since I've sat and twiddled my thumbs, that's ironic, as I only have one and a half thumbs any way. No twiddling ever going to happen here. Now it would seem the ideal opportunity to update you on all things Ads.txt and Adsense, plus some other stuff and nonsense.

Just gonna 'ad lib' a bit here, no notes. Nothing 'phases' me anymore. Life's too short to get all hot under the collar when something 'irks' you. Ignorant drivers, rude shop assistants and random item breaking one day after the guarantee runs out. What is, is. Stuff bothers me but never to the extent that the polygraph needle would go berserk. Phrases like 'That's interesting' 'Not a problem, don't worry about it' and 'I'm sure you're right' seem to cover most situations.

One little 'bugbear' of mine, apologies in advance if any of you are offended, is the generic 'update' newsletter. From friend or family, once a year. An update of all that they have done, neatly typed with images and you name handwritten at the top. I would receive the occasional one and it was tolerable, then, a few years a go my sister started sending them. Blood or not, it got binned before reading. My bad but hey that's how I roll.

A few posts back I wrote about the 'Adsense' extravaganza.

https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/twack/blog/google-adsense-ma...

After posting, I had noticed a few other posts concerning 'ads.txt' issues. No idea what they were but I pointed someone in the direction of a couple of other posts that seemed to address the 'anomaly'. Thought no more about it. I went to my 'Acceptance' email and clicked on 'Get started' Logged into the Google Adsense area and was pleased to see that I didn't need to do anything as there was already 'code' on my site, sit back and watch the 'Ads' appear, they said.

Before I indulged myself I clicked on the notifications. There for all to see was one about 'ads.txt'. Pretty much the same as the posts I had seen. 'Revenue seriously effected' or other such words. What to do ? Well, I read the little bit of info that Google supplied under 'Learn more'. I had heard of some nightmare issues and having to contact 'Site Support' so the outlook wasn't good. However, I had a hunch. One of the plugins on my site is 'Ad Inserter' (I think I first added this during the 'adsense ' part of the training. Adding code to 'header' sections was above my paygrade). I logged in and went to the plugins page, clicked on the 'settings' for the one in question and had a look round. There was a help section and one of the headings was 'ads.txt'.

Rather than trying to explain in detail, the bottom line was, I downloaded the 'ads.txt' code from Google and used the plugin to insert it. It took a couple of attempts as I forgot to 'save' but once I had done that, it was sorted. Within half an hour there were ads on the site. Simples. Had I not had the plugin, it may well have been carnage but you can only go with what you have.

As far as the adverts themselves go ? Well they look just fine and dandy, thank you.

Everything

seems to be 'big' on my site so the ads sit in quite well and so far haven't been 'In you're face'. I have since logged into the Adsense dashboard and everything is up and running, so all is good.

Other stuff and nonsense will have to wait, sorry, places to go, people to see, rights to wrong. I mean wrongs to right, Freudian slip, whoops.

Such bravery -- I opted not to get adsense, as I don't want to mess up the look of my pages...maybe a wrong choice; at least I'd be making some money. However, not ready to try it. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks Fran. So far they are working ok alongside the widgets.

Glad it's working out. Good to see you.

Thanks Mickey. A few more days and I should be back on track.

Thanks for that
Daisy

Always welcome Daisy.

I got a plug in to ad that too. Much easier.

Makes sense and it hasn't affected site speed, which is a bonus.

Didn't affect my site speed either. Each time I add a plug in now I check site speed before and after..

Hi Twack, great post as usual.

Thank you for sharing,

Michael

Thank you Michael. Had it not been for the plugin, it may have been a different story but it was a huge help. Copy, past, save, done.

Good stuff. Awaiting the nonsense part. Haha!

Carol

I just ran out of time, I'll get to it asap.

Frack, your typical great stuff! Been missing you. Love the Freudian slip🤓
Joe

Thanks Joe, I've been doing bits and pieces in the background, just haven't had chance to post until this morning. Probably going to be like that for a week more.
Still, nice to be missed, thank you.

Hurry back!
Joe

Great solution, that will save site support having to get involved, which my solution suggested. I will now refer people back to you 😂. Glad your adds are not to SHOUTY Go get them pennies my friend (because they all add up to pounds eventually) xx

I'd love to take credit for it but alas it was more to do with me not being to add code here there and everywhere. It was just lucky that it had a 'button' for the ads.txt. Site Support and me might have become better acquainted otherwise.
The adverts have been ok thus far. My theme does seem to lean towards 'large', certainly as far as the font etc is concerned, so the ads don't seem to be taking over. Should call it 'PensionSense' the long term saving plan with guaranteed small return. Still, every little helps.
