Over 300% Traffic Growth From 1 Post!
I was just reading a blog post from AmandaJean45 and thought I'd share briefly.
I created a product review site back in April of this year and have been gradually adding reviews and articles over the past 9 months. There've been "ups" and "downs" but ultimately, the product review site has been responsible for a steady stream of new customers to my primary product website and I've been encouraged by the notion that one can create high-quality content and in turn "magically" create revenue from thin air. How fun!
But, as with all journeys, there are points along the way where frustration and self-doubt creep in and threaten to destroy motivation. For me, the frustration set in when I hit a brick wall in traffic growth. It seemed no matter what I posted, what new product reviews I added, the UV's stayed about the same. Frustrating. After awhile, it started to chip away at my motivation and I started posting less.
About two months ago, I forced myself to do a few more product reviews. Before I do a review I spend some quality time on Jaaxy (my mistress) and figure out an SEO strategy. I want to see which products are popular in terms of google searches as well as identify exact keyword phrases folks are using. So I wrote the reviews, posted them -almost grudgingly -and then went about my business.
Approximately 3-weeks later, after I all but forgot about those reviews I posted, I started noticing a huge influx of new orders to my primary product website. We were doing some PPC through Adwords but the huge increase in orders didn't add up. I went to Google Analytics and discovered I was enjoying a 300% increase in new traffic! Yeah, 300%! I then looked at the keyword analysis and discovered that the reason for the increase in traffic and new customers was because of one of the new product reviews I recently did.
Today, weeks later, the traffic is continuing to grow and the new customer orders are rolling in. Amazing.
Here's the point. This stuff works. It's not an exact science and sometimes you swing and miss, sometimes you hit a single and of course, sometimes you hit the grand slam. The point is be consistent. Stick to your guns and keep putting out useful, readable content. Don't give up.

Great post, Trevor. You're right, it works!
I have experienced this too.... you just never know what keyword or article is going to be that "grand slam". The more you post the more of those high traffic articles you'll have!
I totally agree. Keyword research is helpful but it doesn't necessarily assure you that you'll hit a home run. It's more about consistency. Happy holidays!
I too have realized how reviews can make for good content. I've tried to increase the "volume" of them on my site...linking with YouTube etc... and although they get a good amount of views, it often doesn't seem to relate as much to site traffic as I would hope. In your experience, do you think the reviews stimulate better traffic when the products are relatively new? --- or have you found success even with products already popular? In some cases, I have felt that I needed to buy some new products...just for the purpose of sharing my user experience. This can get expensive...and doesn't always translate to increased revenue. I sometimes feel too, that if there are multiple YouTube reviews already in place, and I upload one on the same product, that my review might get lost in the shuffle...resulting in a less than stellar response. What's your take?
Hey rbwnys, thanks for the response. The reviews I do are for a fairly niche product -superfood nutritional drinks. In most cases, the companies that I do product reviews will send me a sample or occasionally I have bought them. In rare cases, I will merely research the product label and do reviews by what's in the product. 90% of my site is product reviews and so the traffic I get is almost exclusively from folks wanting more information about products that they are investigating. The good thing about this is that the traffic I get is very good quality traffic or "buying traffic". I don't do much with YouTube and I think I probably should so I don't have a lot of insight about this. Thanks again for your reply and I wish you the best and a very happy holiday.
Hi Trevor - that's great news - and also a good reminder to those who are finding it frustrating at times.
All the best, Mark
That is awesome! Yes, product reviews are very powerful, especially if you luck into hitting a hot product. That's how I got my first sales on the sites I created here.
Yeah getting lucky is nice! For awhile I thought if I didn't have bad luck I'd have no luck at all. Ha! Happy Holidays!
