Hello all! :) My name is Wendy and I guess here is where I'm supposed to share my story....

After high school I did what any other kid who wants to better themselves would do, I went to college. I went even though I had no clue what I wanted to do with my life.. I was brainwashed into the mentality that there were NO other acceptable options. I just assumed I'd figure it out along the way like many others do.

Long story short, 5 years later I ended up with a bachelor's degree and still had no idea where my life was going. After graduating I worked jobs here and there, but nothing I really wanted to be doing for the rest of my life.

I was really depressed and didn't know what I was going to do. One day I woke up and decided I needed to do something, anything... So I started searching how to make money online. I remember reading a review for an online program that seemed so much different than all the rest. It seemed...real. I decided to give it a chance.

That program? It was Wealthy Affiliate.

Now here I am, a year and a half later and I am doing what everyone dreams of doing. I'm making consistent income online. I learned it actually IS possible to do this.

I can honestly say WA is the one of the best things that has ever happened to me. I am forever thankful for Kyle and Carson, and everyone here that makes this place so awesome. I couldn't have done it without all your help, and I am here trying to give back to the community to the best of my ability.

Hi Wendy

Tx for the warm welcome!

Just an easy question:

Will the domain I am going to register with WA be connected with what kind of membership level I have?

For example let's say, I decide not to upgrade to premium, does that have inpact of this doamin or the cost of the domain like the services for the domain?

Kind regards,

Ralph

Hello Ralph,

If you are just a starter member, you will only be able to create on the free domains (will be a siterubix.com extension)

To register and host a domain you own, you have to be a premium member. So if you aren't planning or not sure if you are going to upgrade, I would stick to a free domain as you won't be able to actually host here with the free membership. You can always transfer to a domain you own later after going premium.

Hi Wendy! I am currently setting up my website. I was doing some searching while creating my title and I saw your website! And your picture! It's so nice to see your website! I am currently working on mine, my domain is this:

Anyway I just thought I would stop by to say hi. Nice to meet you. I'm only 20% of the way through the affiliate bootcamp. Nice to see your website up and running!

Hi Wendy,
on 1/20/17 I was browsing the internet and I came across a Working at Home Website. I was going to register with them. But, I wanted to do a review on them first before I pay the $97.00. I went on Google and ended up at your website reading about the company. You were so convincing, I immediately closed the page and continue reading your website. I like how you advised people that had questions. How you talked highly about WA. They let people try the website for 7 days with no credit card required. I decided to give it a try; I registered last night and so far I am very happy with my decision. I thank you for the information you have at your website.

Hi Wendy, thanks for your message. I am still getting my head around all of this:)! I have sent you an enquiry regarding a niche idea - christianjewelry. I already own the domain: beaconlifechristianstore.com (about 5 yrs - with lots of versions!) so am wondering if this would be a better option to start my first website, rather than try to be 'too specific' with christianjewelry. Sorry about the long message. i would rather just get this right the first time around!:)
Many thanks for your advice Wendy, regards, Di

Hey no problem! You can incorporate the training here into your existing domain if you want, but sometimes it is best to start with an entirely fresh website to follow the training. I don't think christian jewelry is too specific, actually. There are still lots of keywords you can target within the niche. Also you can link the new website you create here to your existing domain, and vice verca.

Reply

Thank you Alan! Unfortunately whoever you come through will be your referrer, it looks like Kyle is. That means you either came through Kyle's website or you didn't come through with an affiliate link. Did you mean to come through my link?
Reply
As a new member, I was not aware of my sign-up through Kyle. I was just searching the internet for Affiliate Programs; must have come across Kyle's ad via Google and completed the sign-up form. I only saw your link afterwards (within WA). That probably explains why some of your responders say they can't complete the sign-up under you by clicking the link you provide; the App will not allow it since they're already registered members.
Thanks anyway, I'm following you. I think you're pretty smart and seem like a very "cool" person !
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Well Kyle is one of the owners of WA so if you signed up through the main website Kyle will show up as your referrer automatically. And yes, if you already register and are a member you cannot come back to any other affiliate link and sign up through them unfortunately. Lol. That would be nice though. Anyway, thank you for the follow and I will follow you as well! :)

I'm sorry, Allie I believe I have responded to your PMs. The lesson plans are kept as up to date as possible, but things change so rapidly there are always going to be little things here and there that may be different but for the most part it is current. If you don't have the all in one SEO plugin, you can go to your plugins and click the "add new" button, from there you can type in a search for all in one SEO and install it on your site.

I have read WendyJane's rebuttal of complaints aimed at Wealthy Affiliates and her essay about WealthyAffiliates (WA). I found both essays to be well written, thoughtful, and encouraging. WendyJane did not mention what her type of bachelor's degree, but she writes clearly, without excess hyperbole, and with a flourish that makes her style entertaining. I have read a number of articles about how to make money on the internet. Most sounded like pie in the sky BS. I discovered Wealthy Affiliates as I was debunking an Amazon Affiliate scam phone call I received. I look forward to getting started with WA and seeing how it goes. I plan to keep a journal of my WA adventure. After my first 90 days I will publish a synopsis of my Journal.

Hi Wendy.

Yesterday I finished all Level 1 lessons and before I even think to go Premium, I´d like to know a few things first. So if you have the chance, please enlighten me on:
1) How Google Adsense really works?
2) How can I advertise products of relevant companies in my website?
3) Can I create an Amazon Review Site?
4) How can I promote products from my website?

Thanks in advance for your attention and time.

Wendy,

You invited me to contact you if I needed help in the future. I need some help, now. I'm not sure if you can help me, but I'm contacting some of the most experienced WA members to maybe get connected to someone who can check my thinking on a problem I have.

There are many details and nuances to the story of how I came to be in this jam, but I'll try to cut to the chase.

I got involved with a program that's doing business as JobKilling.org. With what I see now as a deluded set of expectations, I ended up signing a promissory note for $399/mo, which is killing ME instead, financially. I'm ashamed of the decision I made. I'm about to send them an email saying that I want to end the arrangement, but I just need someone to give me advice, warnings, ideas about what's right to do in this case, hopefully before I have to send that email. I feel like I could make a case for being scammed, but really it boils down to the legal issue of me having signed a promissory note with attending ramifications. Perhaps someone could advise me on how to negotiate an amicable end of the relationship.

Don't feel obligated in any way to offer advice--I'm just trying to share with others I respect and use anything I learn to handle this the right way. It may even be inappropriate to bring this up with another WA associate, but I'll value any perspective or advice.

Thanks,
James

Hi Wendy,

I enjoy writing rhyming stories and funny limericks and my initial idea was to start building a web site around this. Not too sure about the web-site layout, however and the content of the site is a worry too. Also, I have self published a children's rhyming story (ebook) on Amazon and would love to promote this on my web-site. Do you think this is a good idea?
Would love your thoughts on the idea and any other niche ideas you think would be worth developing.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Wendy, quick question - I'm getting the error message comment limit has been reached when welcoming new members. Do you know what the limit is? Thanks.
Reply
wendyjane Premium
I don't know the specific number but I know they put a limit on how many new members you are allowed to welcome per day. I wouldn't worry about it, If you genuinely want to welcome a few people that is fine, but they are already welcomed by their referrals and by Kyle or Carson initially upon joining, so they don't necessarily need tons of other welcomes or they may get overwhelmed.

Hi Wendy I am interested in Weightloss and things relating to it. My other interest is children clothing. Any ideas or suggestions on how to best phrase these would be appreciated.
Reply
wendyjane Premium
For weight loss you probably want to narrow down the target audience - specific type of weight loss (low carb, fasting, juicing, calorie counting, etc) or weight loss for a particular group of people (women over 50, kids, teens) Weight loss if very broad and you should target a focused group of people.

Childrens clothing you could also narrow it more if you wanted - boys or girls? Toddlers? babies? Or you could keep it broader and include them all.

Does that help? I am not sure what you mean about how to phrase it so if you have more specific questions let me know :)

Hi Wendyjane! I am doing some quick work and have to leave soon but I am going through the training again and again I am up against a wall. I was looking at Kyle's "How to Lose Belly Fat Today" as it was being used as an example in the lesson. It says to leave a message below but I can see no comment section. What's up with that? Thanks
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Hey Celeste, I am not sure what you mean are you referring to on his actual website? I took a look and was able to see the box to leave a comment ... so maybe it was a glitch or browser issue. Is it still not showing up or am I misunderstanding what you're referring to?
Reply
CelesteG Premium
I am rereading the course and am in Lesson 1 near the end where there is a link to "howtolosebellyfattoday.com" (I think I remembered that correctly). It says to leave a comment below and I can't see where. This is his actual website and it may be a browser issue--how would I fix it? I remember when I started my site I could not see such a box then either. I thought it may have been the particular theme...I am lost.
Reply
wendyjane Premium
If it's a browser issue you could try using a different browser to see if it fixes it. I also know some themes are weird about the comments but when I go to Kyle's site I do see the comment section.

Although, something to note is if there are already comments left on the article, you have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the comment section in order to see the box to leave a comment. It is an annoying thing but just how WordPress websites are set up by default.
Reply
CelesteG Premium
Thanks for your reply. I have looked at my own website homeswimspas.com and found that if I click on the word 'comment' it takes me to a comment section and a place for the commenter to leave a name and email address. However, I still cannot find Kyle"s comment area even after having switched browsers. At the end of his post, where he says,"leave a comment below" there is the copyright info and his word press theme. I didn't even know what a browser was so I guess I learned something, But I just don't get the "leave a comment" thing and then see no place to do it!

Hi Wendy...I thought this was suppose to be easy to get your web-site up and running...rediculous!! If you have no real experience with building a web-site, which I don't, then things become confusing. For instance...build your website...on a domain I own (my domain name blugoldh2o.com). Our tag line is "Healthy Living Through Sustainability"...name your website????what do I use? The affiliates I'll be dealing with will specialize in organic and sustainable products. I've chosen the look from word press . org. ...how do I move it to my website? I've spent 5 days trying to figure out what need's to be done...I've sent out three messages with only one response...I get lost...your team needs to be more explanatory by showing actual examples of each step, and not a bunch of mumble jumble by just giving instructions with an arrow pointing here and there and we're suppose to understand it. It doesn't work for most.

Thanks

Hi Peter,

I did get your question on my website but I didn't get a chance to respond.

I am sorry if you are lost when it comes to setting up your site, I understand your frustration. Have you gone through the first level of training step by step? It does take you through and show you this. The videos within the training show you exactly what to do.

Did you buy your domain blugoldh2o.com here at WA or another domain registar? https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/domains

If so, did you install it with the website builder here within WA?
https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/websites/build

Unless you are giving me an incorrect URL, I am unsure if you've completed the process because the website link you have given me, blugoldh2o.com, isn't working.

Once your site is installed, you will get access to the back-end where you'll be able to choose whatever theme you want. If you go into your wordpress dashboard, appearance --> themes --> add new , you will be able to select the theme. If you saw one at wordpress.org, their should be an option to download the theme as a .zip file. You would simply then go to your website (within the themes --add new -- upload) and find the .zip theme file and upload it onto your website.

Hi Wendyjane. I'm new so I don't know if I was supposed to respond to your kind invite here or back on my own spot. So I am doing both. :-)

I was not able to get my fave local potato bread anymore so I bought a bread machine. I have not been successful with potato bread yet but I am making fancy braided challahs, english muffin bread, rustic whole wheats, and even bagels (you actually boil them before baking them!). After a lifetime of hating baking, I now make bread all the time. I have had epic failures and epic successes. I'm always posting that stuff on FB.

So: could bread making for the novice inept cook be a niche?

Another idea: learning to add lentils and barley into the menu. Again, for a novice inept cook, and again with massive fails - no successes yet to discuss LOL.

Another idea: getting the slow cooker out from under the cupboard and actually using it (we are still just talking about doing that and we have two of them)

Another idea: changing the menu for a family member with gallstones

Another idea: uncovering and rehabilitating 100-yr-old softwood floorboards & painting them

Another idea: growing tomatoes on the deck

My starter website while doing the tutorials is called Start Using Your Bread Machine Today

I suppose I could fine-tune the bread thing even further - about using only the dough cycle of the bread machine and then doing the follow-up work on the kitchen counter and the final rising on the radiator (or whatever) and the baking in the oven (great aroma in the house!) All you do is bring your computer down to the kitchen and poke at FB or whatever, look up recipes, in between doing bread things, plus wash yesterday's dishes, and do some laundry. If it is summer, go out and water the tomatoes! A lovely way to spend a morning, actually.

I am also a musician but I can't think of anything in that area right now to teach to other people. My ability with vocal harmony is intuitive, backed up by education. But I can't think of something for a website that somebody isn't already doing very well.

Reply
wendyjane Premium
Hey! I'm not sure what you mean "just copy to make quick cash". There is no real way to make "quick cash" here as that isn't what WA is about. I suppose the closest thing I can say is you could start following through the affiliate bootcamp and start the promotion of WA, as it'll train you how to promote a specific affiliate program (with great commissions) and it may be a little more straightforward if you don't want to start in your own niche. However, it still wouldn't be "quick cash" as it takes time and effort to start up your business.

Hi Wendy,

I am a bit stuck can you please help me...
I'm in the process of choosing my niche. I was thinking baby products I have used that i'm passionate about. Stroller, carrier, bibs, pump, clothes, creams etc. I can give in depth real experience reviews on the products. Maybe something like a blog?! What do you think of the idea?? but... But after doing lesson 3 Kyle said to narrow it down. So should I just do strollers?? i'm stuck.. :( are blogs better than normal informative sites????
I really appreciate it
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Well, there are different strategies people can use - either starting with a small niche like baby strollers, or starting a larger scale authority website. It IS easier to start with a narrower niche, like baby strollers, and work from there. However it is also possible to try and tackle a site about baby products, but would be more difficult is all. It comes down to your utlimate goal and what you want to do.

Something to think about is other ways to narrow down the baby product market other than by product (like strollers). For example, organic baby products, high end baby products, or perhaps something like "baby products you will actually need" or "best baby products" - helping people find the important products within the niche and see the difference between stuff you may never use vs stuff you actually need for a baby, and you could incorporate all the reviews of stuff you used and would recommend.

I don't know, just throwing some ideas out. I don't have any kids so I don't know a lot about babies, lol.

A blog is really just another name for a website that regularly adds content, so ultimately you will be creating a blog.
Reply
wendyjane Premium
One more thing - you can always create a more generalized or brandable domain name that wouldn't lock you into only talking about a certain type of product, start smaller with a narrow niche then eventually branch out as you move forward. Just another idea. :)
Reply
AasiyahB Premium
Your advice is GOLD. Thank you so much. I don't want to be stuck talking about only strollers. It's not my passion lol although it would make a good niche. I like the idea of babyproductsyouwillactuallyneed. Because as a new mom, OMG the market really sucks you in and it's overwhelming. I like the idea of being able to incorporate my reviews of the products I love and use as well. And the products I will use in the future. Do you suggest making a domain name such as Mybabyproducts , myfavbabystuff, basically using "MY" at the beginning??
Reply
AasiyahB Premium
btw I really like your websites. Letterbyletter is so cute. I would totally order for my babys room. and tallgirlguide is very clever. You are one of my inspirations!!
Reply
wendyjane Premium
A domain name is a personal decision. If it were up to me, I wouldn't use "my" within the domain, but it is YOUR choice. :)

Thank you! The letter by letter website is relatively new, my sister and I run it together. Actually, she's the artist and can design anything to match your baby room. Let me know if you ever would like to order :)

Hi Wendy, is was great to read your profile as I think it rings true for many of us. But what was even better was to see that after a year and half you are experiencing success. I think all of us " newbies" need to
realise that there are others, like yourself, who have gone before us and have proved it works but we also need to realise that nothing comes for free and persistence and hard work will pay off. Thank you also for your blogs which I really find inspiring.
cheers

If I were to promote my site using the prefix .siterubix then become a premium member, will I loose any or all of accumulated search engine ranking?
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Nope! You can start your website on a . siterubix.com free site here and later on, if you do get your own domain name, WA has it super easy to completely transfer and redirect your siterubix site to your own domain. It should not affect rankings.

Hi Wendyjane I am unable to load all of the items in my menu on my site. I have been able to load some meta tags and two menu items (recent comments & archives) but not the rest. Also my theme (Aron) is not displaying on my site even though it says it is "active". Please advise. I have been trying to get some assistance for7 days now. I am feeling stuck and I need to pick up the pace.
I have tried live chat and I registered and tried to access the webinar tonight w/ Jay but was unable to. Please assist ASAP. Thanks so much.

I"m extremely sorry you have been unable to recieve help. It sounds like either a internet connection or technical issue. Are all things working online except your website won't fully load? What is your website Vernon? I can see if it loads on my end here.

First thing I would try is clearing your browser cache. You can clear it within the internet history. Sometimes things get "stuck" and clearing the cache can help resolve a lot of issues.

Have you tried filing a support ticket here with websites and hosting? They respond within 10 minutes or less and should be able to give you a hand.

Hi Wendyjane, my website is loading just fine and I always clear my browsing history when I log off line. My issue is in the menu page with clicking and loading items from the section on the left to my actual menu and transferring the menu to my site.
My website is https://disciplinechildrenwithoutyelling.com I will send a support ticket to website support, that's a good idea. Please give me some feedback after you look at my site.
Thank you so much for your prompt reply.

Oh I think I see.. hmm. Do you have any posts on your site yet? I would go to appearance --> customize and under where it says 'static front page' I would click 'display latests posts" When you start creating posts, they will show up on the front page.

I would also go to appearance --> menus and from there, create a new menu. This way you can create your own menu once you have your structured pages down that you want displayed within the sidebar. You can also display the location you want the menus to appear. The only page I see in your menu right now is your about me, and it isn't displaying properly because it probably isn't connected to the correct URL.

Here's some training on custom menus: I think after you create more posts and pages and follow those tricks, your links should work. Let me know if you still need help though!

Hi Wendyjane, that sounds like some good tips, I will try them and update you on how it works. I know it's probably just a simple technical issue that has to be figured out. Thank you so much. I am really looking forward to getting my site up and running. I really appreciate your time and advise.

Hey Wendyjane, I hope you are feeling well today. Thanks so much for your prompt reply. I did as you instructed and I was able to see somethings that I missed before but I still wasn't able to put everything in place on my site like I want/need to. The training you send me had a different menu page setup, it's different from mine.

I am relatively tech savvy so while I am a little frustrated I am not discouraged. I have an idea that I think is a very good idea if you are willing to do it. I just created a new updated (version 11) Team Viewer account. I think this is one of the best software tools online. It's simple, quick and totally free to set up. and you can use it moving forward and change your password whenever you like.

If you don't already have an account you can set one up in minutes and remotely access my computer and literally show me how to do this and what I'm doing wrong.
What do you think? I trust you! :)

P.S. I read all your blogs and checked out your websites, very nicely done "mentor".
Reply
wendyjane Premium
In all honestly I don't think anything that elaborate is really necessary. Perhaps you could give me access to log in to the back end of your site, but that is something that may be more efficiently done by tech support here if your issue persists?

Is "About Vern" the only page you have on your website? You should go to the page and make sure your permalink url is set properly (ex: about-vern). Then would go into create new pages and set up a few more, such as "home" "contact me" "privacy policy", you can publish them just as blank pages for now if you want to.

Then I would go into your menu settings and either create a custom menu using those new pages you set up, or use the default menu and make sure the box is checked for it to show up in the primary/secondary menu (whever you want your menu to be).

If you're still noticing it's weird I would recommend just changing the theme altogether, because sometimes that is the source of all problems.
Reply
vernp Premium
Hi Wendyjane, OK that sounds like a good idea also, you logging into my site dashboard. I believe tech support only deals with website & hosting issues, correct?

I will follow your recommendations and see how it works out. I thought that it may be the theme also. When I was picking my theme not all of them were coming up when I clicked the theme demo, most of them were displaying a boat and not the theme.

Yes "About Vern" is the only page that I was able to put on my site and as you can see it's in the wrong place. (Top right)

Thank you so much.
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Yeah, I would definitely change the theme then. I'd then start following the training on setting up your site with pages and posts and I think everything should fall into place. It's hard to really know what is going on because you have nothing on your site yet.

Hi Wendy.., please tell me...,could my hobby become my niche..? i speak dutch, indonesians, and a little bit english and i like to write ,could writing become my niche...?
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Your hobby can become your niche, but you need to make sure it's narrowed down a bit. Writing by itself is just a subject and not really a niche, but something like "writing cover letters" or "writing jobs online" or "how to write a novel" is more of a niche. Obviously it can be anything that involves writing in some way but just bringing up a couple examples off the top of my head. Does that make sense Danny?

Does Top 100 refer to how many people have joined WA under you ?
Reply

No the ranking has nothing to do with how many referrals you have - it is based on an algorithm of how active/helpful you are within the community here.

Hi Wendy, you were the first WA member to send me a message,so I'll ask you my first question. When I am leaving messages or adding to the blog, when I type down to about three or four lines, the cursor jumps back to the beginning of the piece, so I end up with half a sentence on the 3rd line, and the rest at the top, before the first sentence. I then have to cut and paste the line back at the end of the piece I am writing. Not life threatening or anything, but really annoying if you don't look back to the screen in time, and discover you've got two sentences adrift at the top of the comment. Is this something I'm doing wrong, a fault with my laptop, or is there a glich in the system?
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Wow that is really weird, I have never had that happen to me on here and I've been around for 3 years. I would have to think it's an issue with either your laptop or a possible browser glitch. I would recommend using Google Chrome if you aren't already.
Reply
NearlyThere Premium
O thanks Wendy, I'll see what happens over the next couple of days, and keep you informed.
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Yeah, of course I really don't know exactly what it could be without being there but those are just my thoughts. Does it happen when you type anywhere else or just at WA? It could be something you are unintenionally pressing on your keyboard also.

Hi! NearlyThere,

This has been doing the same thing to me lately. I believe it is because my browser (Firefox) stops responding and I keep typing. When it starts to respond again, it ends up being at the beginning of the post. At least i know where to find what was written. I even got an external hard drive to try to free up some memory on this poor old laptop. Guess I'll just have to make some cash and order a brand new one. After all, it will be tax deductible in next years return.

And yes, Wendy, it still does the same thing in Chrome, but not as much. It's just from having a (too full) computer, a real work horse that has (almost) seen it's better days! I heard a long time ago that Firefox (before Chrome was invented, I think) was a more secure browser than Internet Explorer. For this reason, it has become my default browser.

Hello! This is going to sound dumb but to make your own website do you have to sell anything? For example I have an idea that I want to start my own wedding planning business or start a writing website so other members can post their stories. Is that possible or do I have to sell something to get anything out of it?
Reply
wendyjane Premium
Hey Mariah, it isn't a dumb question at all. It entirely depends on your niche and what you plan to do with it. Some people don't necessarily sell or promote anything but purely use a program like Google Adsense (or alternative ad network) for revenue. I personally wouldn't recommend doing that for several reasons but just letting you know it is a possibility.

Wealthy Affiliate will teach you affiliate marketing, which is the process of selling other people's products for commissions. If you wanted to start your own wedding planning site, I'm sure you could find lots of products to promote and/or eventually create your own product or sell your personal wedding planning services to others.

I hope that helps and let me know if you have any more questions. It all will become more clear as you progress through the training.
