The WordPress community has it’s own jargon.

If you want to learn Wordpress, you need to know and to fully understand the basic terms and concepts.

This is why I've created this "small" Wordpress glossary that can help you to create a solid ground for your future efforts.

Here it is ...

0-9

301 redirect; HTTP status code used to tell search engines that a web page has permanently moved to another URL; will force the visitor to automatically jump to a new specified URL which might be on the same site or on a different one

302 redirect; unlike 301 redirect, the 302 redirect is used for pages that have been moved temporarily

404 (or “page not found” error); HTTP status code used when the server couldn’t find the web page requested by the browser

A

above the fold; the upper section of the web page that is initially visible without scrolling

AJAX; client-side development technique which incorporates HTML, CSS, XML, Javascript and several other web development technologies; it can be used as a data exchanging method – between a website and a server database – that can update parts of a webpage without reloading the entire page

anchor text; the visible and clickable text in a hyperlink

anonoblog (or ghostblog or faux blog); a slang term used to describe a so-called anonymous blog that is written and maintained by an anonymous author using a pseudonym or a pen name

Apache; reliable and highly customizable free, open-source web server software used by the majority of WordPress hosting providers

B

backend; the part of a website that is invisible for the user and includes different functional components (server, databases, scripts etc)

blaudience; the audience of a given web log

blog; a regularly updated website aiming a specific target group and containing chronological publications, articles on personal or individual thoughts

blogosphere; the worldwide community of all weblogs; the complete interactive universe created with various blog publishing platforms

blogroll; a list of links placed usually in the sidebar and representing a collection of other blogs recommended by the blog owner

blog archive; the one-page “history” of a blog presented as a complete collection of categorized blog entries

breadcrumb; a collection of navigational links used to show where the user is in a given moment in relation to the whole site structure

I'm just "tired" seeing the newcomers asking about basic, essential terms and notions ...

Hopefully will help them to better understand a few things ...
