I would like to first of all mention that I use mostly Windows PCs for my WA Tutorials. Plus, I use Citrio Browser instead of Google Chrome because it is more lightweight but fast and secure in its speed.

Are you like me who has done many Revisions to your Blog Posts/Pages lately on your Website?

Then, you see that there is a Large Number for Revisions you did for each Blog Post/Page and you want to make that number lower?

I got the idea to do this Tutorial thanks to Marcus the Magical Musician Man's Tutorial Titled: How To Drastically Speed Up Your Website

I just wanted to expand on it a little bit more as it has been Updated recently and some extra settings and changes have been made.

Just as you can't have multiple Anti-Virus Programs running on your Computer, likewise please exercise some caution to not have multiple Optimization Plugins running on your Websites also.

As per Marcus' WA Training above, I have found that I did NOT need the Autoptimize Plugin running alongside these Plugins I use for my Website all the time.

1) EWWW Image Optimizer Plugin

2) Optimize Database after Deleting Revisions Plugin.

The Autoptimize Plugin led to some major errors on my Website and I remember asking WA Tech Support about it and they said that some Optimize Plugin was making it almost impossible to see any of my Post Content while being in my WordPress Admin Dashboard.

It was completely blank, and it was upsetting me, Cleared Cache, switched Browsers around, you name it. Done it all, I guess you could say I have a certain way with conducting Trial-By-Error Experiments dealing with Plugins, but I came out victorious nonetheless and hope many of you all will too.

So, with careful process of elimination I had to help myself figure out which one was causing the mess. WA Tech Support did their part, and I did mine by removing the bad very bad Plugin called Autoptimize from my Website. And guess what? Everyone is happy, a perfect win-win situation. (^_^)

Alright, on with the rest of this Tutorial I have prepared for you all.

If you do a lot of Editing like I do then there's ton of revisions that are still there. I used this and it reduced my website about 75% in data.

It deleted over 700 revisions. It was a lot of unnecessary space I was taking up.

This Plugin's Purpose is that it: Optimizes the Wordpress Database after Cleaning it out.

Step #1: Go to your WordPress Dashboard.

Click on Plugins --> Add New.

Type in White Text Box on the Right Optimize Database after Deleting Revisions.

Press Enter.

Step #2: Click on Install Now.

I like the fact that this Plugin is Updated every now and then too. :)

Click on Activate Plugin.

Step #3: Click on Plugins --> Installed Plugins.

Click on Settings underneath Optimize Database after Deleting Revisions.

You will also notice that when you hover over Tools, at the Right Hand Side you should then see Optimize Database too.

Hm, this plugin has stopped working and I am not sure what's wrong?

Everytime I do my settings, according to your training, and click save settings, when the new page comes up all my settings are gone.
Any idea what might be the reason? Must have something to do with the new WP update.

Sometimes plugins do clash with new updates, maybe there is a similar plugin that works with the new update or they might bring a new update to the plugin you are using.

Trust this helps

Angel, if I have it set to run at 3am when I'm not on the computer and it is closed, I'm assuming it won't run either. (I'm a newbie)

So it seems we need to run this manually, right? Or maybe it will run when we are on the computer but not in our post or page editors? I'm a little confused, obviously, so please tell me what to do to solve the issue. Thanks.

Also, when we do get it to run, do you know if it wipes out DRAFTS? Or does it leave them alone? And if I leave a page there that is a draft (to keep an image and it's code handy for a sidebar widget), does Google not like that? Or does Google just not like it when you have a "publish" date set and it is bypassed?

For my intents and purposes, have learned that it doesn't matter if it wipes out drafts. I was going to use a draft to store an image for a widget. Once it's in the widget, it no longer needs the library image that lived in the draft until I made the widget.

Hi Angel, I came back to your instruction, which I saved in my library. By the way, I also mentioned you and this helpful training in a WA blog. I just now noticed I had overlooked pressing the "follow" button, so as of now I am following you. FYI you wouldn't have seen the blog via your email notifications because I accidentally wasn't following you when I posted it.

I came back to your post here today because I am having trouble with something and on a WA suggestion I decided to clear my cache manually. It didn't work for my current issue so I have some more work to do. Meanwhile, I have a question for you to cover all my bases.

I did not put "0" in for the number of revisions as you suggest. I entered "1" because I'm afraid of losing all revisions, including my latest one. Just me playing it extra safe.

Also, I did not tell the cleaner/optimizer to run every hour. I decided it could cause a big mess if I want to leave a draft in the editor for more than an hour and forget to change the setting. So I set it to run at 3am once per week.

I wonder what your thoughts are on my setting these parameters for the plugin operation. Any reason not to do it the way I have?

Thanks so much for your feedback.

Dear RoriO,

As far a the Plugin goes. everybody's schedule can be different. I personally wouldn't run it hourly, but daily and weekly is fine. Monthly if there's an option. It depends on how much activity is going on in your website. do you have 40+ revisions in a day, a week, or a month?

In my opinion. If you're writing once a week, then you don't have a reason to run a Plugin daily. but if you're writing 2 articles a day, with a ton of editing, then ya daily is probably the better option.

As far as revisions, I like to keep 2-3 revisions per post. You never know if something happens with a web site update and you're forced to go back a revision (if that can happen), or if you decide to rewrite a post, want a few revisions just in case you don't like the new rewritten post and want to convert back to an older post.

I hope that helps. :)

Please let me know if I need to clarify any further. :)

Thanks for introducing one of best plugin. But should I have to keep on activate after completing revisions or is it better to deactivate it after use?
Thank you
Reply
PhoenixFlame Premium
Dear arjuntu,

Welcome, no problem. Great question. I shall try to rephrase it so I can understand what you mean better.

I think what you are asking me is that if you have plenty of revisions done already to your posts, would it be wise to run this Plugin just once and then deactivate it soon after?

I usually just let it run in the background while I am trying to update my Blog Posts. As it done by hourly.

Refer back to this in the Tutorial. 3) Set Scheduler White Text Box to: run optimization HOURLY. It has been brought to my utmost attention that as we had Set Scheduler in the previous part of the Training which you can look at below. The Scheduler does not seem to be working properly for if you want this Plugin to run on autopilot in the background while you are busy writing new content for your website. :/

I think it can be a bit time consuming to remember to activate it and deactivate this Plugin when you have a big pile up of revisions that need to kept back as number 0 instead of going up and up past 50 and not having it cleaned out.

Hope I helped explain this well. :)

Welcome, no problem, glad we helped get you a Plugin that is easy to use for Fonts.

I am a "Princess of WP Plugins and Trial by Error Experiments."

Some people use more than that, at least 12 or 15.

I would like to reduce my Plugin Numbers too. But, feel all are necessary.

Welcome, no problem. :) Wow, glad to hear you saved a bit of MB while running this Plugin upon installation. :)

I uninstalled Zen Cache as soon as I heard Carson tell me that having Cache Plugin can lead to many errors.

Carson and the WA Tech Support saw my Robots.text file in Google Search Console was blocking important pages of mine on my website for some odd reason.

They wiped it clean. I have included some images you can see below to Dan-L where I explain it further.

I never installed any Cache Plugin again.

I stumbled upon using Optimize Database After Revisions Plugin by a WA Member who told me about it.

So, made a Training of here for everyone to see and benefit from. :)

And I humbly thank Dan-L for his explanations too here in our Discussion on the subject matter. :)

Reply
PhoenixFlame Premium
Dear Dan-L,

I would like to kindly draw your attention to the PM Discussion I had with Carson with regards to the use of Caching Plugins.

Just like you, I have had used Zen Cache Plugin before thinking it would help load my Website faster.

However, somehow I was getting Crawl Errors and other problems when I checked in my Google Webmaster Tools now known as Google Search Console when I wanted to do the Fetch As Google so that my Blog Posts would be indexed on Google faster so I see what their Position would be in terms of Ranking in Google Search Engine.

Carson and WA Tech Support went in and wiped my robots.txt File Clean so that I would not have any Errors and therefore I then quickly removed Zen Cache and will not use that again.

Here are attached pictures based on my observations and experiences.

I honestly hope that no one runs into the problems I had to deal with in terms of using a Cache Plugin.

Wishing you all the best with your online success above and beyond the horizon. :)

Hi Awesome info here.Just a question though, you said that the revision posts reduce the website data to 75percent.Does the revision work that builds up in any way reduce the loading time of a site?
Reply
PhoenixFlame Premium
Dear RoopeshG,

Well, for me it did reduce the Website Data by 75% since I had many Revisions for each of my Blog Posts. :) It will vary a bit per person based on number of revisions and other things like unused tag words, etc.

Hmm, interesting question there. I think I shall try to rephrase it so I understand it better.

I think you are asking me if this Plugin will help with making a Website load faster?

If so, then yes it can help with that based on Marcus' Tutorial here below. :) I just sort of expanded on this Plugin because sometimes I want to know why I am installing a certain Plugin and mention exactly what it does and what the whole process optimization run looks like before and after completion. :)

Hope that helps address your question further and more better for you. :)
