What Should Be Done?
I definitely think that all Newbies should be given more detailed instruction, in their initial phases of training, about the difference between a Page and a Post, and what their specific functions are. Pages and posts may visually look the same, but they have different formats and are designed for different uses in a website. It is imperative that all of us know this information before we even start creating our first Page!
What Damages Did I Suffer?
Because of this unfortunate ordeal, I wasted over 2 weeks to find out why I couldn’t create a blogroll with the pages that I had, which was all I did have! Being new to WA, I simply didn’t know what a post was and why I would need to have a post! In addition, I wasted another 3 weeks to manually rewrite 90% of my pages into posts – and it’s not quite done yet!
Can You Be the Next Victim?
Chances are that you may be the next victim of this disaster. Therefore, in the spirit of preventing other WA newcomers from being blindsided with this sudden disaster, which may easily push them to even contemplate quitting WA altogether (as I nearly did!), they should know and undertake certain vital steps to protect themselves.
It apparently seems that this issue is a current problem that many other members have had the misfortune of experiencing – one that I am sure Kyle and Carson will take note and address more strongly to eradicate any ambiguity between a Page and a Post, from the viewpoint of new members.
When I first went into WP, I noticed that there were pages and posts and made an effort to find out what the differences were. That seems logical given that pages/posts are right in front of you in the dashboard.
I would suggest that the training relies on people using some determination of their own as to creating pages or posts. Often in the training, Kyle will suggest that you create a page or post and leave it up to you to make you best decision. After all there are so many different ways to create a site and so many different personal reasons to choose a document as a page or post.
If anyone is worried about categorizing pages, I think there is a plugin that allows you to categorize pages so that pages are included in a category search. I read about this but never tried it.
On the video in Phase 1 Lesson 8 of the Boot Camp within the very first minute of the video Kyle says, "We're going to be creating this review as a Post because we're going to start getting our blog roll rolling with content."
Then he goes on to show you that he has a 404 error on his Home Page and says that there really is no error and it's because, "I don't have any content on my Home page and that's a result of not having any Posts."
You can watch the first minute of the video here - https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/affiliate-bootcamp-an-introduction-to-creating-reviews
I would suggest you go back and edit the first page of this training so that it doesn't mislead anyone into thinking that Kyle doesn't teach what he actually does teach.
Other than your above error the rest of the training looks good.
