The Problem
If you’re one of the unlucky ones, like am, you’ve probably experienced the aggravation, the waste of time, and the loss (or potential) of some money because you were forced to basically shut down your website to rewrite (or convert) most of your website’s pages into posts! Why? Because I simply wanted to create my site’s blogroll, which I couldn’t do with my existing pages! The reason – It was not CLEARLY explained to me the specific differences between Pages and Posts, and that I definitely had to have Posts in order to have a blogroll! I must stipulate that Kyle does indeed touch on this topic briefly (in Phase 1, Lesson 1, of Boot Camp... https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/affiliate-bootcamp-an-introduction-to-creating-reviews...) but I think that it could have been a lot more helpful if this issue was elaborated in more detail.
I had initially started out with my WA Review as my website’s Static Page - the first (Front) page that anyone who visits my site would see. But later on in my training, when I became aware of a Blogroll – a summary page of the all my posts, which I still thought were the same as a Pages. I wanted to give my visitors a visual taste of what my contents was about, and allow them to select a topic that appealed to them, as I would want to if I were them. But I was unable to do so because I had not created any Posts.
In the image (1) below you see where we can assign a static front page (a page that we must have already created) for our site in Word Press Dashboard.
In the above image, you can also see (above the “Static Page”) the option for “your latest posts”… this is your blogroll, which is only possible if you have already created any posts.
Important Note
I must honestly state that I am quite certain that this is one of those issues that should have been more strongly addressed in the WA training program – the Bootcamp program in my case. I have come to sincerely believe that Kyle and Carson are impeccably thorough in providing the best marketing training program in the industry, which convinces me that this must only be an accidental incident. It would be ludicrous to think otherwise, because Kyle and Carson want the very best for their loyal WA members, as to ensure a smooth transition of the members’ comprehensive training into timely success stories.
When I first went into WP, I noticed that there were pages and posts and made an effort to find out what the differences were. That seems logical given that pages/posts are right in front of you in the dashboard.
I would suggest that the training relies on people using some determination of their own as to creating pages or posts. Often in the training, Kyle will suggest that you create a page or post and leave it up to you to make you best decision. After all there are so many different ways to create a site and so many different personal reasons to choose a document as a page or post.
If anyone is worried about categorizing pages, I think there is a plugin that allows you to categorize pages so that pages are included in a category search. I read about this but never tried it.
On the video in Phase 1 Lesson 8 of the Boot Camp within the very first minute of the video Kyle says, "We're going to be creating this review as a Post because we're going to start getting our blog roll rolling with content."
Then he goes on to show you that he has a 404 error on his Home Page and says that there really is no error and it's because, "I don't have any content on my Home page and that's a result of not having any Posts."
You can watch the first minute of the video here - https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/affiliate-bootcamp-an-introduction-to-creating-reviews
I would suggest you go back and edit the first page of this training so that it doesn't mislead anyone into thinking that Kyle doesn't teach what he actually does teach.
Other than your above error the rest of the training looks good.
