Step 1: What Is a Page?
If you recall Kyle teaching us how to create our initial pages (About Me, Getting Started, Contact, and Privacy Policy) of content for our sites, these were all created in a “Page” format. These are the actual few core pages that once created, usually remain unchanged, unless there is a need for any important updates. I have also add “Affiliate Marketing Disclosure” and “Report a Scam” to the list of these pages as well. Image (2) below shows that Pages & Posts are indeed two different entities in WP dashboard.
Pages can placed individually, or in named drop down menus on the top of the web pages, or in widgets on the sidebars, as you want them. Note that the contents (text, video, photo, etc.) of Pages, as well as their size, can be similar to that of Posts.
Image (3) below shows an example of individual pages on the top Menu of my site.
Image (4) below shows an example of categorized pages listed on my site’s main sidebar, as they appear in my site’s blogroll.
Step 2: What Is a Post?
A Post, as used is WA, is when we publish some type of content - could be a story, blog, video, or photo, etc. - which is the only format that can be used to create a blogroll, a summary of all your posts that appears on the default Home page of your site. In WA, posts can be used to showcase such topics as: Reviews; How to Blogs; Targeted Opinions & Commentaries; etc. USUALLY, posts are used in the form of sidebar widgets on your site – you have the option of categorizing them in one or more locations.
As you can see in image (5) above (again in my site’s blogroll), I use different categories to show the same post(s) in multiple locations – something that you can also do with Pages. You should never create a duplicate Post of a Page, or vice versa – Google will penalize you if you do!
When I first went into WP, I noticed that there were pages and posts and made an effort to find out what the differences were. That seems logical given that pages/posts are right in front of you in the dashboard.
I would suggest that the training relies on people using some determination of their own as to creating pages or posts. Often in the training, Kyle will suggest that you create a page or post and leave it up to you to make you best decision. After all there are so many different ways to create a site and so many different personal reasons to choose a document as a page or post.
If anyone is worried about categorizing pages, I think there is a plugin that allows you to categorize pages so that pages are included in a category search. I read about this but never tried it.
On the video in Phase 1 Lesson 8 of the Boot Camp within the very first minute of the video Kyle says, "We're going to be creating this review as a Post because we're going to start getting our blog roll rolling with content."
Then he goes on to show you that he has a 404 error on his Home Page and says that there really is no error and it's because, "I don't have any content on my Home page and that's a result of not having any Posts."
You can watch the first minute of the video here - https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/affiliate-bootcamp-an-introduction-to-creating-reviews
I would suggest you go back and edit the first page of this training so that it doesn't mislead anyone into thinking that Kyle doesn't teach what he actually does teach.
Other than your above error the rest of the training looks good.
