Time: Your Most Valuable Commodity
As employees, we are often beset with boring jobs, being where we would rather not be, living very highly routinized lives. Very often we wonder if there would ever be an end to the tunnel and for a large majority of the working class, disparity sets in.
Many of us attempt to offset this drudgery by engaging in the "fun" stuff when we are not at our day jobs. This, of course, has given rise to many of our multi-billion dollar industries we see in Hollywood, sports, and other modes of entertainment we see about us. Indeed, the flat-screen TV has become the number-one icon of consumer pastime. It has also become one of the insidious time-wasters known to man.
If it isn't enough already, that in all likelihood, face time at your job is very under-compensated, many of us spend our evenings and weekends indulging in entertainment. We do this to offset having to work for a living in jobs that do little to satisfy our passions.
Unfortunately, for those who would like to do away with that boring job, this equates to using our precious off-time for things of very little value.
Throw the Thing Out!
I, myself eliminated television, but it isn't really necessary. Simply re-purpose some of television-viewing time to getting educated here at Wealthy Affiliate or working on campaigns. This small sacrifice equates to huge benefits in the long run. A half-hour taken from our entertainment time per evening it adds up to four and one-half hours constructive use. We can go even further...
When you are watching television, where we do get personal value from our favorite programs, commercials are some of the worst time-sucks in viewing, plus these tend to covertly put things in our minds that equate to pure rubbish. About 22-25 minutes per hour of commercial television are dedicated to advertising! If you spend about four hours (like most people do) watching prime-time television, that's a solid 1.5 hours of pure unadulterated horse manure you can, not only prevent getting into you subconscious mind, but is a great time to get an article together!
Should we refrain from entertainment?
