My shop teacher in junior high school use to tell us jokes if we could con him in to wasting the class time doing it. He wasn't all jokes. He told us lessons from his life and one time he brought in a navy pilot who had been blinded when he crash landed on an aircraft carrier. My cousin, Theo, was on the Lexington and a second ship which were sunk at the Battle of the Coral Sea. Then he was transferred to the Block Island in the Atlantic which was also sunk. When he was rescued there, the crew of the rescue ship said, "We don't want you Lex guys on here. You are bad luck!"
My brother was fighting in the Pacific so I was very interested in this young aviator's report.
Anyway, that was long ago.
One joke that Mr. Pearson told us was that a fat west side sparrow met a skinny east side sparrow in Salt Lake when they first but trolley cars in play. The east side sparrow asked why the west side sparrow was so fat. He said there were plenty of horses pulling wagons down the streets and they had plenty to eat. He asked the east side sparrow why he was so skinny. The east side sparrow said, "Well, they put these trolley cars in over here and they go down the the street saying, 'Poop, poop, poop,' but you can't live on a promise."
When folks come to WAU, they have certain expectations. Some think it is a get-rich-quick scheme and think that they will be making enough money to pay their tuition within the 10-day visit period. Others realize it will take a while to get going.
In either case, getting the money together to keep going can be a problem. Sure, it's best to get enough money together to buy a one year membership. It saves you a lot of money. So those who have money save more here than those who don't.
Too many drop out here because they don't see how they are going to make monthly payments.

What a small world that you mention Red Skelton. Many years ago in a Western Tack store in Houston I met Red Skelton. My mom and I were doing some horse tack shopping, when a man a few feet away was doing everything he could to get my attention. There were a lot of Bowler Hats near him and he kept switching hats and his actions got wilder & funnier. I stood there mesmerized by this funny man. My mom leaned over and said "do you know who that is, that's Red Skelton. Being a stupid kid, I blurted out, "it can't be, he;s dead! Oops, it was him and he was so kind to me. What a truly good man he was (or is). What a great memory he gave me.
Thank you John!

It is true there is "good debt" (fees and trainings that will make you more money in the future) and "bad debt" (TV's and Boats etc)
