You should now be in the File Manager window. Take a few minutes to study this screen. Each web hosting company has their own version of the File Manager. The major difference is the capabilities and location of files and directories.
If you look under the Files Section on top, you will see that WA allows you to:
- Remove a selected file/directory
- Touch a file/directory
- Copy/Move a file/directory
- Add/create a file
- Calculate the size of a file/directory.
The File Manager is a very powerful tool and you need to pay close attention to what you are doing when using it. The directories/folder under the Name column are the default directories that are automatically created for you when you create your hosting account. Normally, you want to leave these alone. If you look under the Permissions column, you will see that several folders will allow you to change the permissions of these folders. You can easily tell which ones you can modify because they are in blue and are clickable. You can also tell by looking under the User column. The username you used will appear in this column. For security reasons, I have marked my username out. Notice that under the User column you see root. You cannot change the permissions on these folders. Root is similar to the Administrator account with a Windows computer. Again, in most cases you should just leave these alone.
For our purposes we are interested in getting to the root directory of our domain. This directory resides under the httpdocs folder. Notice the folder immediately underneath (the httpsdocs folder). Do not get these confused. We need to get to the root directory of our domain so click on httpdocs folder as shown in Figure 5.

Maz - You are welcome. You can do a heck of a lot with the file manager. If you are not hosting at WA, most hosting companies allow you to zip/unzip files. This is a real quick way to upload/download your entire site.
