7. The important aspect of resizing is to maintain aspect ratio. Otherwise you may get a blurred or disproportionate image.

By clicking on resize, you get this window. If you want to change the size, the horizontal and vertical percentage change should remain the same to keep the original resolution of the image. For this, click on the check box ‘maintain Aspect ratio’. Say, for example, you want to reduce the size of the image by 50 percent, just fill 50 in the vertical or horizontal box. By filling in one box the other box will automatically fill up. Click on OK and the image will be displayed after processing.

If however, you want to have different changes horizontally and vertically, do not check the ‘maintain aspect ratio’ box.

Alternatively you may fill up the pixels in the given icon for specified pixels.

8. Look at the following image:

In this image there is blank space around the image. If you save this image the resulting image will also have the blank space around it covering some area unnecessarily.

When you click on the page, you will find two small rectangular icons at the middle of the horizontal and vertical bar. Drag those points inwards to make your image confined to the area you desire to be saved. The blank space will be removed.

9. Click on this icon to crop your image:

Cropping means to select the desired portion of your image and extracting it from the entire image.

10. For those who want to go further, they can play with colors in the following icons. About the colors there will be separate resource later on.

11. Now when your image is ready, click on save specifying the location of saving. Remember to save the file by clicking on the ‘Save’ icon as a .JPEG, .JPG, .GIF or .PNG file format. Otherwise your file will not be uploaded on the site.

For those who do not have (nor want to buy) PowerPoint software, there is a free open-source equivalent contained in the Open Office suite of tools. The Presentation tool has much of the same functionality as PowerPoint.

Information on the OpenOffice suite (word processor, spreadsheet, database, drawing program, formula, and presentation tool) can be found at:
