Question Hook
A question hook is when you ask the reader something that they can relate to and perhaps visualize. It encourages them to identify with it in their own mind. Then, the writer answers the question.
- Example: Have you ever watched a dog agility event with each dog racing through a course, over hurdles, through tunnels, weaving poles, just so excited to be running with his human partner? Every time I see these events, my own excitement builds and I can't help but imagine my dog and me on that course, hitting every target with such excitement.
If you are a person who enjoys having fun with your dog, this might make you read on into the article to see what you can do with your own pet. It's the type of post that often leads to information about training or equipment, too.
Another Version of the Question Hook
Sometimes the question hook is not aimed at all the senses. In fact, it might be one that just jars the reader into thinking something like, "Really, Why?"
For instance, the question hook might be along the lines of:
- How much sugar are your kids eating each day?
- Do you have enough savings for emergencies?
- Did you know that skilled trades often provide more pay than many college degrees?
Essentially, any question can be a hook, if it calls strong attention to the topic.
Next, let's consider the quotation or statement hook
