Step 7: Now Check Your Work – Record the Result
As was in Part 1, here is FINAL step of how we check our work, and record our final results in our “Image List” of our spreadsheet. As I’ve said before, we all best learn by example. Then, to use this example let’s go back to Google Page Speed Insights and recheck our Page Speed scores for “Before and After” using the SAME procedures from our previous training PART 1: STEP 8.
To review, this is a 2-part process:
a. We FIRST apply the 4-Step Breakdown Review from Part 1: Step 8.
b. We THEN implement the 2-Step Final Re-check to confirm the process WORKED.
So NOW let’s apply this to our Page“Before and After” – HERE WE GO!
4-Step Breakdown Review:
1. Using this same process from PART 1: STEP 8 (except applied to our Gallery images). I used my “Before and After” page Gallery images (4 image Gallery) and compared the before-and-after manual image optimization results for 2 of the 4 images on Page Speed Insights.
My (2) new Gallery images “East Galley Wall Final” and “West Monorail Wall Final” located on the “Before and After” page, both had the original uploaded pixel size dimensions of 1536 x 2048 and a file size of 1.19 Megabytes and 1.14 Megabytes respectively.
2. By going to Media Library, perusing the page carefully and clicking on BOTH thumbnail images, I was able to confirm ALL of the information for each of the image’s in Attachment Details.
Indeed as you can see, Attachment Details shows that BOTH my original images had pixel size dimensions of 1536 x 2048 and a file size of 1.19 Megabytes and 1.14 Megabytes.
3. After repeating the process from our previous training PART 1: STEP 8,Page Speed Insights identified and correctly confirmed that both images were collectively severely slowing my “Before and After” Page Speed both in Desktop and Mobile.
4. Later re-checking Google Page Speed Insights by clicking on the “Big G” and scrolling down to Optimize Images by clicking on “Show How to Fix”, on this new page Google demonstrated to me that by manually optimizing BOTH images I could reduce both file sizes by 92% and 94% respectively (average gain a 93% savings).
After first documenting all of my images line-by-line in my spreadsheet, and then re-scaling BOTH images “East Galley Wall Final” and “West Monorail Wall Final” as covered in PART 1: STEP 8, I went back to Google Page Speed Insights AGAIN and rechecked my Page Speed scores using this 2-Step Final Re-check.
Note I repeated these same manual optimization procedures and processes for ALL 700+ of my images inside my Media Library, to achieve AMAZING speed results!
2-Step Final Re-Check:
1. On WordPress dashboard in the top left column, go to your Media Library by clicking on Media and then Library (Media > Library)
(screenshot 9 - of scroll Media Library)
Simply by later re-scaling BOTH images’ pixel dimensions to 384 x 512as covered in training PART 1: STEP 8, I was able to reduce our image sizes from 1.19 M and 1.14 M.to 25K and 19K !!!!!
Now in doing so, we have greatly enhanced our Page, and the SPEED of our Site
All of this was achieved without any reduction in the clarity or perceived visual size of the image. Here are the confirmed results from my FINAL Attachment Details.
(screenshot 91c – FINAL GALLERY VIEW)
2. Revisiting Google Page Speed Insights after reducing BOTH images, we “refreshed” “Before and After” Page and here were the results:
Amazing Success!!
Site Speed is now 99 out of 100 both in Desktop and Mobile!
Bravo !!!!
You TOO can achieve these fantastic site speed results! And all things being equal, the FASTER your site WORKS, the Greater Engagement (provided you also write Great Content of course!)
Please take your time with this highly-detailed lesson and review IT as MANY times over as needed. And always update your spreadsheet data!
In addition to learning the manual optimization techniques from Part 1 for single images, now you know how to optimize all of your Gallery images from Part 2.
Once you start taking action by DOING this regularly, soon enough YOU TOO will be CRUSHING your Page Speed Insights speed scores by having ALL your Pages loading SUPER FAST from 39 to 99!
Thank you for your participation in Part 1 and Part 2 of this course, and please feel free to leave your comments here.
