Don't make the mistake of trying to make a sale before your visitor gets to know like and trust you. Trust is the key to making a sale, and you build that trust over time.

You do not build trust by being a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. Pick a niche you are passionate about. The more focused the niche the easier it will be for you to develop the reputation of being the person to come to for help. Notice I said person. One of your biggest problems is to transform website to reflect you as a person. People don't do business with a catalog. They do business with people they know, like and trust.

Your website must focus on providing information your visitors want and need. The way to build trust is to provide useful information. People respond to you as a person. Let them see you. That is why videos on your website are important. It is also why marketer use webinars to reach out to their audience.

The number one objective of your website must be to get your visitors contact information so you can stay in touch and continue to build that trusting relationship. Three tools that are indispensable to an internet marketer are:

1. an optin contact list,
2. an autoresponder, and
3. a webinar.

The optin contact list is you money in the bank. That list is made up of people who have asked to receive information from you. When you recommend a product to them, many will buy. The bigger your list the bigger your income.

The difference between your list and a list you might compile from a collection of business cards is the people on you list have asked to hear from you and when you send to lists you have no relationship with you are spamming that list.

When I collect a bunch of cards at a networking function, I will call or email the person whose card I have and remind them of our meeting. I will then introduce myself find out if we have common interests. If we do I will ask if we an stay in touch. Only with their permission will I add them to my optin list and even then the list serve will ask them to confirm that they want to be added to my list.

Double optin mailing lists protect you against accusations of SPAM and protect members on the list from SPAM as well.

An autoresponder sends a series of email to people who join your list. The autoresponder sends email on your schedule that you might not have time to send if you had to respond individually to each person who joins your list. Your autoresponder starts to build your relationship with your visitor.

A regular weekly webinar is important because it lets you interact with you audience. People get to know you as a living, breathing person rather than a bunch of words on paper.
