We have been talking about key words, but what makes a good key words and how should I use them?

First, a key word must be relevant to your subject. Never dump a bunch of key words in your post just to get traffic. Search engine and your visitors get mad when you use keyword SPAM.

Second, a key word needs to be searched for. Look for between 100 and 500 searches a month. However several keywords with 50 searches a month can add up to a lot of searches. In general, the more search on a key word the more people will be using that key word and the harder it will be to get that key word ranked.

Third, look at the competition. If thousands of people are using a key word, it will be very hard to get that key word ranked well.

There a free ways to find key words and the are expensive and very complicated key word tools sold. The free tools can be complicated and time consuming as well. I prefer Jaaxy. It is a quick, easy to use and incredibly powerful keyword search tool.

So, how do we make effective use of key words?

Key words go in the header of you page and in the title and body of your posts and pages. All In One SEO Pack is a popular WordPress plugin that will help you optimize you posts and get the key words in the right place in your source code. No programming needed.

Most important is how you use key words in your in your content. Include your key word in the title of your post and in the first paragraph of your post. Make sure your key word flows smoothly with the text. Changing a single word in a long tailed key word can have an enormous difference. "Aquaponics hawaii" gets a Jaaxy yellow while "backyard aquaponics hawaii" gets a green.

Don't overuse key words. Once in the title and once in the first paragraph are enough. More will start to look SPAMy.

I look at this and I see I have a long way to go, I wish I were 25 years younger. For the real newbies there are terms I need to know, especially the abbreviations. I'm in for the long hall however long it will be. In a few months I'll understand more. I'm glad you're on my side :)

I'm 84 and I've been working at internet marketing for the better part of 5 years. Modest success, but I feel with WA I'm making gains faster than I ever could have expected. Have questions, just ask. The world has such opportunities and challenges. We live in exciting times.

You can even say THAT backwards, too.
Bill, I am MEGA inspired. I have a long way to go, but you have just demonstrated that age is no barrier, and now I just need to get into it and stop sitting on the fence.
