Introducing WA to a Complete Newbie Step 1
You must capture their attention and spark their interests right at the beginning. You must raise their curiosity so that they are interested to what you are going to tell them next. If not, whatever you told them, it may just come out from another ear.
(CAUTION: The worst way to begin is to start talking about Wealthy Affiliate and what you are doing straightaway!)
How To Spark Their Interests?
In order to spark people's interest on something, the key is RELEVANCE. If something is relevant to you, you will definitely pay more attention to it, right?
Since we are all humans and we tend to "think for ourselves first", you need to start by talking about their:
- Wants
- Needs
- Desires
- Troubles
- Problems
- Situations
(For the rest of the training, I'll use the word "problem" to collectively refer to all of the above.)
By talking to them about things that are relevant, they can resonate to what you are about to say. From here, you then let them know you can HELP them out with that particular need/problem/etc and what will the potential outcome be.
Without first introducing your solution to their problems, you create a sense of curiosity in their mind. They will start wondering what's the solution and help you can offer.
However, take note that you CANNOT sound very "salesy". Some people focus too much on generating curiosity and it ends up being very "salesy" and promotional. This is what you want to avoid!
What you should do instead, is to show your genuine CARE to their problems. It's best if you can offer a very simple tip to them upfront targeted at their needs. This increases their trust in you to really help them solve their problems.
It's Your Job to Do the Research
When building a bootcamp site to promote Wealthy Affiliate, it's your job to research your target audience well. Target audience research is NOT just about knowing who you want to share WA with. It's about understanding your TA's wants, needs, problems, etc...
After you understand your TA's problems, you then start by discussing with them about these. Show your understanding, care and concern about their problem. Put yourself into their shoes and let them feel that you totally understand how they feel and what they need.
After all, understanding your audience is all about EMPATHY + RESEARCH!
On your website, you should start your homepage with a huge attention grabbing image with a short description and a clear call to action. This is to first let your target audience know that this website is for them. If your image, description and call to action is relevant to them, they will be curious to find out more. That's when you capture their interest!
So, your homepage plays a really important role in sparking your audience's interest.
An example of the type of homepage I'm talking about:

(This is just an example. There are a lot of other ways. But I just won't recommend you to set your blog page as your homepage. A homepage with INTENT will convert a lot better.)
First impression is really important!

Introducing Wealthy Affiliate in Person
If you want to introduce Wealthy Affiliate to your friend or family members, you don't have to do research. That's for your website.
Chances are, you already have some basic understandings about his or her characteristics, habits, backgrounds and interests. What you need to do is to dig into these things.
Start the conversation by asking questions about their interests, or simply talk about it. This will make the conversation more natural and easy to begin with.
If you begin the conversation by talking about YOURSELF or by introducing something new to them straightaway, it will only make the conversation a little awkward sometimes and not easily absorbed by the listener.
You can also discuss with them about their future plans. What they want to do? What they plan to do with their interests? Their job? Their future?
These kind of topics can be very productive and also allow you to easily transit to introducing Wealthy Affiliate to them later on.
A good conversation focuses more on "YOU", not "I".
When talking about things that matter to them, like their interests, they will be more willing to talk to you. You can then offer some good values into the conversation here and there and slowly lead the conversation to how you can help them.
This is the first step. Your audience is definitely interested to continue the conversation if you start by discussing things that are relevant and matter to him or her!
