So what is Bitly?

When you visit the https://bit.ly.com website you're immediately presented with a facility that allows you to paste any website link/URL into a box, click a button and get it shortened to something a lot smaller.

A new page then opens, with your shortened link for you to copy and paste where you need to use it. You'll also see a summary of the link's content, the link's click-through summary, and an option to sign up to Bitly to monitor all of your links - which is, at it's basic level, absolutely free. What's more, no sign up is required to simply shorten your links.

No worries Loes. Pretty Link is great as a link management plugin for your Wordpress site, though from memory doesn't offer stats. Furthermore, it doesn't give you access to your competitors' stats - which is good and bad as works both ways I guess :-)

I agree, but the number of clicks is a bit limited and doesn't really tell us a whole heap. That's why I like these Bitly stats. They're not extensive, but there are some useful nuggets of information in there - like referral path. I find that really handy as it allows to find where my competitors links are and, where appropriate, add my own.
