Let’s Dig a Little Deeper

Dog gone, I think I have a niche market!

A market is a group of people with a common specific interest who get together to discuss that interest and to learn from each other.

Have you ever heard of demographics?

You look at your group and you ask yourself some questions:

How old are these people in this group?

Do they have money jangling in their pockets?

Are they lonely, happy, sad, eager, crippled, crazy, what?

What do these folks want? What problems do they have, problems they want solved.

Where do they hang out?

Can you find a niche within a large market? Health care, weight loss, dating, insurance, jewelry, fishing, hunting, car parts and many other major markets have smaller markets within. My daughter-in-law sells jewelry on the Internet. It is unique, a criteria for products feeding a niche, because she makes the jewelry herself. Her dad makes his living by building websites so she has an advantage there. But she also sells locally just as my neighbor, the Lavender Lady, does.

I have two granddaughters who work together and crochet hats and other stuff for babies. I recently sat up a Squidoo lens for them to test for a market for folks who would like to crochet. My wife, Pat, who is now unable to do such things, taught them how to knit when they were four-years old. So it was natural for them to pursue that interest. They sell their crocheted goods on a free website along with many other craft people. Who says you can’t start a business for free.

The weight loss business is huge but marketers can find a niche within that market which competes directly with the big pharmaceutical companies. It is often a safe, natural way to lose weight. Have a site that focuses on belly fat and a trainer and dietician who lives this business.

One of our members loves hula hoops. She makes them herself and locally in Canada, she teaches classes on how to use them. Is that a niche in a large market. You decide. It will give our brain some exercise.

Dating is big stuff and dating sites make tons of dough. You know that some specialise such as the Christian sites. There is a LDS (Mormon) dating site. Marketers and writers often focus on their on church members to whom they market their stuff.

So, you can sell that Fidgety Flipper bass lure to the huge fishing market. And you can sell that whistle that mimics a wounded rabbit to coyote hunters. I use to have an employee who use to shoot coyotes from an airplane but here in Idaho, I have a friend that calls coyotes in at night. They come in at full speed after that “rabbit” with teeth snarling. He has to shoot fast. During the Great Depression my Dad, a former trapper and hunter of coyotes wrote a story for the Rocky Mountain news, a Denver Paper, called Will a Coyote Commit Suicide. He used it to buy me milk so it must have been in 1932. I have it around her somewhere.

Writing is good for producing products for a niche market. Having a proprietary product is always desirable. ClickBank is full of such stuff which are sold by affiliates. Is it better to be an affiliate selling such a product or a the writer who is splitting the profit on a sell with hundreds of affiliates. Now that is a no-brainer.I think it cost $50.00 to put a product on ClickBank but you must have a good sales and product delivery page that might be best prepared by a professional copywriter who knows where the “buttons” are on the potential buyer.

The point here is that there are niche markets within huge markets and they should never be ignored.

Once you identify a niche market, you need to study carefully how to reach it and how much it would cost you to sell once you get there. PPC is a risky business for new marketers but it is also a very powerful way to promote a product. It is a study in itself. Kyle and Carson are experts in this area and they have written a number of excellent tutorial on the subject.

If you do go into PPC, I suggest that you use the customer service available from the big three, Google, Yahoo and Live. There is nothing like working with an expert at no cost to you. Also WordTracker has plenty of free information on keyword research and PPC. You might give there free keyword tool a try. You can also rent there regular keyword tool for a short time for a nominal fee. Nice people.

I mentioned that small classifieds can bring people to your web site. Here at WAU there are plenty of tutorials on how to market your site for no cost at all. Article marketing can be effective as can blogging and social marketing and working the forums, etc.

Interesting> I had a marketting Prof. who drove a GM X car so he never forgot the basics. Those were 80-84 cars that were brought out too soon, had many defects, were improved immensly by 84 but it was too late, the reputation of the brand was ruined. what was his name? Malek Daboul. Lebanese.

A great point important to Internet marketers. Once a reputation is lost, it usually stays lost. Thank you, Harry! J
