Is It Really a Niche Market?

First let us decide if we have a niche product or a niche market. Let’s look at the product first (as we should not). Where could I buy one of these gizmos right now?

“Well, George, I saw one like that in the corner grocery. It looked just like it.”

A loaf of bread or a bottle of milk or a screw driver or other products you can buy in your town by hopping in the car and driving to the mall or supermarket is probably not a niche product. But when you walk down the mall and you overlook the big chains but instead look at the specialty stores or the kiosk, you are getting much closer to a niche.

For example, that kiosk that is selling covers for cell phones is pretty restricted and specific product wise. People walk by and bump into the kiosk because it is right in the customer stream and they grab a cell phone cover or a pair of designer sunglasses or a bottle of special hand lotion or a bag of nuts because it is there right in front of them. They did not go into the mall to buy that. They were on their way to Sears to by a refrigerator.

Let me see if I can tell you what an Internet niche is. Folks go to the Internet looking for something. It may be the news. It may be the weather. It may be to buy a camera at Amazon. It maybe that they are looking for specific information.

Those that are looking for specific information may have a problem they want solved. They may be looking for a product or way to solve that problem.

If you think that your niche market is a group of people having a specific interest and who have problems they want solved, you may have found your niche. It is your job to find products that will solve their problem or create one that does.

Interesting> I had a marketting Prof. who drove a GM X car so he never forgot the basics. Those were 80-84 cars that were brought out too soon, had many defects, were improved immensly by 84 but it was too late, the reputation of the brand was ruined. what was his name? Malek Daboul. Lebanese.

A great point important to Internet marketers. Once a reputation is lost, it usually stays lost. Thank you, Harry! J
