One thing that is a big problem when it comes to website design is that many people still think and promote old news. The biggest problem has to do with keywords or more importantly how you use them properly.

STOP WORRYING ABOUT KEYWORD DENSITY

Supposedly there was a time when keyword density mattered and it was probably back in the days when keyword stuffing was acceptable. But that was then and this is now. Many things have changed since then but there are some people who still think that what was true then is still true today.

Because of this there is a lot of misinformation still floating around out there on the internet and many people who do not know any better, believe it is true. Keyword density is not an exact science. There is not some special number or percentage of keywords that are going to give you great rankings.

Even though Matt Cutts, formerly of Google, said back in 2011 that he wished “people could stop obsessing about keyword density,” people are still doing it. As you will learn in the video at the link below, Matt Cutts says that there isn’t any benefit to have your target keyword appear more than 3 times.

I basically follow the same mantra and only use my keyword 2 times within my content, 3 times if my content is above 1,500 words long. I have seen great benefits in only using my keyword 2 or 3 times. Most of my Google page 1 posts only have my keyword appear 2 times within the content.

NEXT UP = You do not need to use the keyword Meta tag

Hi Robert,
I've removed all instances of keywords in the SEO keywords meta tag field for pages and posts on my site. Will doing so automatically update the XML sitemap and/or will Google re-index my pages next time the bot visits? Or is it a good idea to manually do a fetch as Google in Webmaster tools for my home page and all pages linked to it?
Thanks
Neil

No, everything will be fine next time Googlebot comes back to recrawl your website and update the sitemap.

But if you want you could do a Fetch of your home page and all related links.

Can you take the keywords out of the Meta tag after they have been published?

For Pages, yes you can.

BUT

For Posts you need to be careful. The more recent versions of WordPress and/or the All-in-One SEO are placing your blog post tags in the keyword Meta tag too.

So if you remove your keywords from your Post Meta tags, make sure you do not remove the blog post tags too.
