Undoubtedly social media is an integral part of our every day work. It is such a vital source of referrals for our marketing strategy, that I personally question whether I would be able to make money from my online efforts if social media did not exist.
But - and I hope I am not stating the obvious here - we have to be wise about how we use it.
When I first started my WA journey, I hardly had any social media accounts. Let alone posting pictures and videos of myself!!!
Yes, I am quite self-conscious in so many ways, but hey, our Kyle has helped me break barriers that I never thought possible to break before joining this crazy, yet exhilarating journey #lol
However, remember how potentially vulnerable you become when exposing yourself - and your private affairs - to such a wide audience as the one of all the people that can see your social media posts every day.
There are simple measures you can take to keep yourself and your family and friends safe:
- ideally, do not make your profile public - even if I know this is difficult, as we in fact want to be as public as possible to attract visitors and to increase conversion rate on our posts and review as much as possible;
- never post pictures of people you want to protect - it is our choice to make ourselves public to raise our business profile and become a trustworthy face, but this is not the choice of our family members nor friends;
- never post information that could make you vulnerable - why posting you are going on holiday for the next 2 weeks!!! Everybody will know your home is going to be empty. Equally, if you want to show how much money you have earned, make sure to obscure details of your accounts, or even of your account provider. Better too safe than sorrow!!!
Just a final couple of tips here.
- Sorry to all those WA members who support LinkedIn actively, but did you know that, of all social media platforms, LinkedIn is the most unsafe due to the amount of personal info they require of you?!?!
- Also, have you ever checked whether your email addresses have been compromised at any one stage? Google 'have I been pwned.com' (not affiliate website) and enter your email address to find out whether your account has ever been breached. You don't need an eye opener, but it will be an eye opener (!!!).

A great post, an eye-opener on various things. I have checked 1 email address and all seems to be ok, now I have to do the second. It gives one goosebumps to say the least. Thank you for writing about this.
I hope all is ok at your end including fur babies.
