Pinterest allows you 500 characters for your description.

If you scroll through Pinterest, you find a number of images without any text at all or just a word or two.

and others with a whole essay!

So, which is best - short and sweet like the first one, or long and detailed like the second?

Dan Zarrella, a social media scientist, gathered information from over 11,000 pinned images and found that Pinterest readers prefer descriptions of about 200-300 characters in length.

Pinterest is largely a visual medium so don't destroy that with descriptions that are too long. However, you do need to make an impression with your text in a whole sea of images. Find the sweet spot between too long and too short for your pin descriptions to be most effective.

Thank you.

In fact I never add any description. Instead, alt text shows automatically. So the job is done already when I add picture to the post.

I put keyword usually in the picture file name, so again this is done already in the post, no need for extra job.
