To create a Pretty Link, point to where it says Pretty Link next to the star in the lower left side WordPress menu and then click on Add New Link, see image above. This will then bring up the Pretty Link Add Link creation page. The plugin will auto generate a 3 or 4 character shortened link for you, see image below.

CREATING THE LINK

You first want to copy the link you wish the Pretty Link to go to, your target link, and then paste it into the top-most box on the Add Link screen. Then create your custom link slug in the middle box, separating each word with a – dash. And then in the bottom box create a link title to appear in the Pretty Link plugin menu, see below image.

Now scroll the screen down and you will see that the box next to where it says “Track Hits on this Link” should be checked. If it is not checked, check mark that box. If the link you are creating is going to an affiliate link you may want to check the Nofollow this Link box. Seeing how I was not creating an affiliate link I did not need to Nofollow. Then just click Create, see below image.

NEXT UP = The Pretty Link slug needs to be unique, not taken

I prefer pretty links perhaps it is because I find it easier, have a try with both and see which you like best, try it out on a practice website

I would choose Pretty Link because it includes your domain name and then the shortened slug. You can either select the 3 or 4 character shortened link the Pretty Link generates or you can create your own.

Can to explain to me what cloaking a link exactly is? I have seen that word before, but I don't understand the benefit or meaning of it

Cloaking is where you deliberately mislead Google into telling them they are going to one site but you take visitors to somewhere completely different .

jivitaa339 is correct. Some call it a form of Black Hat SEO that as you know is not recommended that you do.
