How to SEO and Generate Traffic for Your Website

Well hello folks, welcome to my training course on Search Engine Optimisation and generating traffic. These two topics go hand-in-hand, so I thought dealing with them both might help to answer some of your questions.

I've recently seen a lot of questions surrounding these areas, so have attempted simplify the process of getting a Page 1 Ranking on Google (and the other Search Engines).

As you know, good SEO helps you gain traffic and vice versa.

My first advice to you would be to create a domain name with low QSR (Competition) that will rank well. Jaaxy has it's own tool that shows you the availability of domain names. Sometimes the domain keywords will be available but the ".com" may not be, in which case you may need to choose ".co", ".org", ".net" etc.

Obviously if neither of these are suitable, you may just need to choose something another domain name that has a ".com" available (I think most of us will agree that ".com" is most suitable option). Here's a screenshot of Jaaxy's Domain Search Tool (far right column):

Having good, low-competition keywords and phrases throughout your content is crucial, especially if you have chosen a niche with a bit of competition on the Internet.

There are different theories about where your main keyword for the page you are writing should appear: of course, you'll want it in the permalink for the page, the heading, the first paragraph, the last paragraph, and in the meta keywords section below the page in your Wordpress Editor (assuming you have the "All-in-One SEO Plug-in" installed on your website.

You will want to have other keywords scattered throughout your content. I would say, just write your article, page, post or blog to inform your audience, then you can worry about keywords later.

As Kyle has previously said, your written content will already be loaded with keywords anyway, as long as you have written 500 - 1, 500 words per post (often mine are well under this threshold!). As long as you are writing on a frequent basis and have made your content instructive for your readers, you'll retain your rankings.

Once you have finished writing your post or page, you can fine-tune your keywords/key phrases and substitute them with words that have similar meaning that will rank better on Google.

Creating new content on your website on a consistent basis is key to keeping your first page rankings, if you are already up there on Google.

I am realising more and more the importance of adding new content to your website to retain your rankings and traffic flow - writing 2 - 3 blogs or posts per week on your website for example, so that your website health for that criteria stays around 90% - 100%. You can check this on WA by going to "Tools" then "Websites & Hosting" and then clicking on "Website Health".

Your website can be doing well in all other aspects of its health, but if new content is lacking, its health and ranking can quickly decline - this is not ideal.

I'll provide some more SEO tips and techniques in the following days, also info about how to really generate some steady traffic. In the meantime, feel free to eave me some comments and I will create my next few pages based around your ideas! :)

You don't actually install it on your website. I'll send you a link, it will probably explain it better than me... :)

Hey Mac, thanks for this training! Just one question... I have the all in one SEO plugin, but on my page that shows all my posts it says...

SEO Title: No Title
SEO Description: No Description
SEO Keywords: No Keywords

Should i touch these sections?

Kyle hasn't mentioned them at all in the Bootcamp yet and I'm on course 5.

Thanks,
~Ryan

Thanks for reading, Ryan. Hope you've got a few ideas from it..

You may recall in one of the early Bootcamp videos (Lesson 2 or 3), Kyle typed some keywords (Wealthy Affiliate, SEO and a few others) into the meta section as he was editing one of his pages, below where the written content goes in WP Editor. That's all you need to do.

The "Title" and "Description" are what will appear on Google when people conduct a search, so make sure they contain your main keyword too; the "Keywords" can be any words or phrases that you may think are relevant to your page...

I'll find Kyle's video and post it to you later. :)
