Step 5: Uploading Your Interior Book File
Figure 16: Uploading the Interior file
You can now choose and upload your book file in the recommended file format listed on the site. Many authors and publishers prefer the conversion of your book file into an html file format. But to me, no need to do that since it requires more knowledge of html code.
The KDP site is enough to convert your work into a kindle file format just in seconds. Before you select your source file, please choose the digital right management option.
I recommend you enable this so that people will not be able to copy and use your book in any way without your permission.
This is when the KDP becomes more secure than other book publishing platforms which do not have this feature available for you to use.
After your book is successfully uploaded to the server, you can now preview it in any device online or download the file and preview it offline using your computer.
You need the Kindle for PC downloadable free of charge from Amazon or you can download the previewer software.
Figure 17: Browsing for the Interior file
Here you can now choose the book file from your computer by left-clicking on the “Browse” button as shown above. You will see the open file dialogue box opening after clicking and this will depend on your default web browser.
You have three great links to KDP content guide, formatting, help and creating a comic book for the Kindle. All these links will open new tabs on your browser so that you read more online.
Figure 18: Uploading process
Your book will begin to upload after choosing the file from your computer. During the uploading process, you will see the screen similar to the one shown above.
The file will be converted into a Kindle version after the successful upload. The computer will also show you that your book upload and conversion has been done successfully.
On step 6 you will have to review your book. Remember, you cannot create the book cover online or upload the new one from your computer until you upload your book file in Word format.
You can use another word processor as well, such as the OpenOffice. After you upload your book you will also see if there are spelling errors or not.
If any errors are found, please save your work as a draft or fix them and then continue your publishing work.
Figure 19: Back Button
If you are not ready to publish this book now and you do not want to save it also, just hit the button shown above and you will go back to your bookshelf.
If you are ready to continue with the publishing process, then hit the button below. Not in this book really, but on your KDP publisher site!
Figure 20: Saving buttons
You can either save this book as a draft or save and continue by choosing the right button as shown above.
When you hit the “Save and Continue” button as shown above, you will be taken to the second and last tab. The last tab is where you will choose your territories for your book and then the price.
You can choose to match the US sales with other sales worldwide by using the checkbox available there. You will also choose your royalty option from there. Most of my books are "How-to" guides, helping people learn how things are done.
