Step 1: Enter Your Book Details
When you visit the KDP website you will see a link that asks you to add your new title. Clicking on that link will then lead you to a page with three tabs asshown below.
Figure 1: KDP Tabs
You can see that the last tab above is optional, meaning you can choose not to enroll your book in the KDP Select Program
KDP Select is for book promotion, because the program will allow you to make your book free for five days in each promotion period of 90 days.
If you like, you can select the checkbox, which asks you to enroll your book above the book details information below.
Figure 2: KDP Select Program
Just check the box above if you choose to enroll your book in the KDP Select Program, and then enter your book details as shown below. The book name below is your book title. You can make it long or short depending on the title of your book. There is also a place to put your subtitle, do not put them all in the same box please!
Figure 3: Enter Your Book Title
This is the first step. This is where you will write/type the title of your book in the space provided
First, click “The Add new title” button. You can add the subtitle if you have. You can indicate if your book is a series or just leave the box unchecked. You can enter your publisher’s name in the place indicated on the page.
Your publisher is not KDP. You are the publisher of your book, using their free perfect tools online. You can create your own brand. See more on how to create your brand below.
Figure 4: Enter a subtitle (if any)
Here you enter the subtitle of your book. The first text box where it says, “New Title 1” is meant for the primary book title. The subtitle is also optional, meaning you have to choose to enter it or not. Most books do not have subtitles, but many do. You have to enter the text that is only the subtitle text and nothing else. The subtitle will be added to your book title automatically, so keep it reasonable not too long.
Figure 5: Series Option
If your book is part of a series, please select the check box above by left-clicking on it. You will also have to enter your edition number.
In case you want to know more about all these, just hit the blue text link with the question mark and you will read more about that step or section.
When you clicked on the “What’s this?” You will read more about that section in a temporary window that will open. The edition number of your book is also optional, meaning you can choose to add it there or not.
Figure 6: Publisher Option
Here you can enter the publisher’s name. If you have created your brand, then enter it here. If your book has been published before, please enter the name of your publisher here. You can even leave the place blank in case you have no name for your brand yet. For creating your own brand link mine, please see section three of this little guide.
Figure 7: Book Description
Here you will need to enter the description of your book. What is your book about? This helps your potential customers to judge whether they really need to buy your book or not. You have 4000 characters, but I suggest you use short and eye-catching book descriptions. Long book descriptions may confuse your readers. They may get what they want from there. They will no longer need it if they get their problems solved by the description.
Figure 8: Add contributors
Here you add your book contributors, including yourself if you are the author. If you are the publisher you can also add your name and your role.
Just left-click on the “Add contributors” button as shown above and a window will open where you will enter the names of the contributors and select their roles on the far right drop-down menu that will expand as you click on the arrow.
You can add the contributors and choose their roles in the making of the book using the boxes provided online.
Figure 9: Add or change contributors
If you are the author of the book, type your name and choose author. Remember that you will have to use the same name if you publish other books later or else the system will think you are a different person.
Your books will be linked to their print versions of the Amazon’s sales channels if they match with the author name. Is that not important? You can remove, cancel or “add another” contributor.
Figure 10: Language and publication date
Here you can choose the language in which your book is written and the publication date. The publication date will be added automatically if you only publish your book for the first time in history.
If your book was published before somewhere else, please type the date. You can also select the date using the small calendar button on the far right hand side as shown above.
The language choice is not optional. If your book is written in English just leave the default language as it is. The default language is always English as you can see above.
Figure 11: Book's ISBN option
Here you can enter the ISBN of your book which stands for the International Serial Book Number. You can only enter this if your book was published somewhere before this time and you have its ISBN with you.
You can also buy an ISBN from CreateSpace or any other brand of your choice. This will also list your book as published by those who provide your ISBN. You can buy an ISBN from Smashwords as well. Most of my books are "How-to" guides, helping people learn how things are done.
