On the previous page I mentioned how to set the general settings for receiving your Google Alerts. On this page I will show you how you can customize the settings for each of your Google Alerts. In the image below of my alerts dashboard you can see that each alert has a pencil icon for going into settings and a trash can icon where I can delete that alert selection.
When you click on the pencil icon, as highlighted in green above, you will get a chance to create specific settings for that particular niche or topic alert. In the image below you will see the specific settings you can select for each of your alerts. I will explain each one below the image.
You can decide how often you will receive new alerts = As it happens, At most once per day, or At most once per week.
You can decide the type of sources you can receive = Automatic (meaning a mix of all types of sources), News articles, Blogs, Webpages, Videos,…
You can decide in what language your alerts will be in.
You can decide what region or part of the world your alerts are coming from.
You can decide on how many alerts you receive, either Only the best or All results.
You can decide where to receive your alerts, either in your email address or RSS feed.
Using Google Alerts is a simple and great way to help foster content ideas by looking at what your competition and others in your niche are publishing. I know I have been able to come up with content ideas for both my websites and blogs here on WA.
If you are not just having problems coming up with content ideas but also struggling to come up with a focused down niche, take a look at my training What is a Niche at the link below, where I break down several popular niche markets into 10 sub niche markets.
