People are looking through different channels to see if they can find something that will entertain them. That being said, you're gonna want to create a channel name that will grab their attention!

Really, there are two types of videos on Youtube: There are entertainment videos, and there are instruction videos. Now, many of us here at Wealthy Affiliate will probably be creating instruction videos, but that really depends on your niche. Regardless, the rules of the game remain the same.

Here are the steps:

  1. If you haven't done so already, create a Youtube Account. If you have a Gmail account for the website you're wishing to create videos for, then you'll want to use that same Gmail account.
  2. Upload an image. As you would do for anything else, make sure it's an image that is professional. Preferred is an image of yourself.
  3. Once those steps are completed, click on your icon in the top right corner of the screen, and then click on the little cogwheel (when you hover over it, it will say Youtube Settings).
  4. In the overview section, which you should start off in, you should see a little link at the bottom of the page on the right hand side that says "create a new channel". Click on the link.
  5. *** Choose an appropriate name for your channel. Remember, it's just like keywords: This is how people find your channel, so choose wisely! Once you choose a name, click on the category button, and choose a category, and then click on the box by the Page Terms (which wouldn't be a bad idea to read).
  6. Congratulations, you have created your Youtube Channel!

Some facts you may want to consider when making your Youtube Channel name:

  • Make it as natural as possible. This is a given.
  • Keep your keywords simple.
  • Keep your description creative, but short and to the point.

Not so bad right? In the next part of the tutorial, we're gonna talk about just a few simple tips you can use to make your Youtube Channel look "fancy" and add more appeal to attract more people.

Should I give the channel the same name as my website? And, if I have more than one website, can I have more than one YouTube channel?

It would be good to name the channel the same as your website. As for your last question, I’m sure you can. 1 channel for 1 website sounds great. I’ve seen people having many channels using the same account.

What free software would you recommend if you gonna make YouTube videos when you want to mainly film yourself? Or is it better to do it with your own camera do you think?

If you are using a webcam, you can just record your videos with the webcam and use YouTube's built in features for loading the video.
If you need screen capture software to record actions you are doing on your computer, I have found http://www.movavi.com/ to be a good resource.
If the video is just you talking, a webcam built into your monitor would probably be enough.

Thanks for that response electrobot. Also, if you are looking to record just your screen, and you have a mic say on your laptop (if you have a desktop then you can purchase one online for cheap), then you can use ScreenCast-o-Matic to record screen software. They always do it for free. and I haven't had any trouble with them either.
