This portion of the tutorial doesn't take very long, but it has to be done with care.

Make sure to go to your website, and get a good look though your different topics that you've created. Now, of course, this doesn't apply to those who are creating videos and are just starting their website. However, most will be at the point where they already have a website and probably already getting some traffic.

Here are some things to consider when looking over your site:

  • What exactly is my website about? (aka niche)
  • Does my website have multiple topics? (aka niches)
  • If niches are clearly in the title of my pages/posts, can they be summarized to one central niche?
  • Are there any places on my site where I can include a training video in an already created page/post?

Once you go through your site, and check out those questions, maybe pencil down your different sub-niches or subtopics or type it up on a notepad document. Sometimes, you'll find that you have multiple sub-niches within your niche, and they MAY serve as a guide to describing your Youtube Channel.

Don't skip this step! It's very important. When describing your Youtube Channel, it's almost like doing keyword research, and that's how some of the Youtube audience will find you!

Should I give the channel the same name as my website? And, if I have more than one website, can I have more than one YouTube channel?

It would be good to name the channel the same as your website. As for your last question, I’m sure you can. 1 channel for 1 website sounds great. I’ve seen people having many channels using the same account.

What free software would you recommend if you gonna make YouTube videos when you want to mainly film yourself? Or is it better to do it with your own camera do you think?

If you are using a webcam, you can just record your videos with the webcam and use YouTube's built in features for loading the video.
If you need screen capture software to record actions you are doing on your computer, I have found http://www.movavi.com/ to be a good resource.
If the video is just you talking, a webcam built into your monitor would probably be enough.

Thanks for that response electrobot. Also, if you are looking to record just your screen, and you have a mic say on your laptop (if you have a desktop then you can purchase one online for cheap), then you can use ScreenCast-o-Matic to record screen software. They always do it for free. and I haven't had any trouble with them either.
