How to Check the Ownership History of a Domain Name

It is important to ensure that the domain you purchase is clean. You may not be aware that someone could have owned your domain name ten years ago and let it expire.

They might have used the domain in spammy ways 10 years ago or had thousands of spammy links (think gambling, pills, etc.) pointing at the domain. Many of these links will still be pointing towards the website when they buy it.

If your domain has a bad history, it could make it difficult to rank in Google.

Archive.org is a Wayback machine that allows you to look at the domain history. This amazing tool captures screenshots of websites from the very beginning of the internet. Wayback Machine will keep a history of the domain if it exists.

So you need to check your site and be sure that you are all good and there is no past history to stop you from using it now.

Don't panic if it does happen! It might still be fine. Click on a few screenshots to verify that the site isn't doing anything "bad".

Choosing a niche and creating a domain name can be as easy or hard as you decide. Don’t take the fun out of it, get creative, do your research and start branding your website today. Appreciate the informative post, Lily. I'm glad that you mentioned that '.com' isn't always necessary. I've purchased a couple of domains and had to settle for '.net' extensions in both cases.

That's the only way to learn Stephen.
Keep in mind that you can start several websites here and this makes it possible to get started and then change directions when you learn more.

Beware of 'paralysis by analysis' it can sneak up on you and suddenly you are no further forward 6 months later.

You are looking for a niche that you can feel passionate about writing 3 articles a week for 12 months at least (or get a copywriter to write) and that will have good opportunities to sell products that you like. Either through Amazon or other affiliate links.

Hope this helps.
