How to Choose a Niche and Domain Name
Search engine optimization is no longer the time to include a lot of keywords in your domain. Keywords in domain names don't give you any SEO boost.
It is therefore important to find a domain name that is memorable and brandable. You want it to be easy to remember and explain the purpose of your website.
You might want to use your personal name for your domain name if you're starting a blog.
Here's a list of DOs to consider when choosing a domain name.
- Keep it short and sweet
- Register a .com preference
- Make it memorable
- Use favorite words with simple spellings
- To ensure that the domain history is clean, check it out.
- It should include a related word for your niche.
Let me add some thoughts to the above points.
Is a .com Extension Required?
A.com extension is not necessary. Any extension can be used to rank your site (.co, .net or .io). The .com extension is easier to remember and most businesses may prefer it to other extensions.
What Keywords Are in the Domain?
You don't want your domain to be keyword-stuffed, and that's not necessary. It's okay to have a single-word keyword or a two-word keyword in your domain.
If you're interested in starting a blog about Technology, you can try TalkTechnology.com or TechnologyExpert.com. Or if you are starting a site about Survival Tools, you might try SurvivalToolWorld.com.
Few keywords are fine, as long as they don't become too long. Domains with more than three words are not my favorite. Two words are better.
So, BestSurvivalToolForTheBusiness.com would be a keyword-stuffed domain that I would avoid.
You don't need to include keywords in your domain. I believe being memorable and brandable is more important than any keyword.
