Getting started with Pinterest

  • As with many social media platforms you need to register
  • Fill in your profile , select your interests

When you have done your profile it should look like this with your own details of course.

You will see my site has been verified to do this; just follow the steps.

Step one

  • 1.Click on your name at top of Pinterest page
  • 2.Click on the gear symbol on menu then select account settings
  • 3.In the website field click confirm your site
  • 4.Copy the meta tag

Step 2

Now go back to your website and paste in the meta tag to the <head> section of the index html file before the <body> section. It should be placed before the body section

Step 3

Go back to Pinterest and click finish, Pinterest will automatically check the meta tag on your website and verify your site, to make sure it has worked look at your profile page.

If you are going to do it this way you will need to Upload HMTL file

  1. Go to pinterest click your name at the top
  2. Go to gear symbol then account settings
  3. In the website section click confirm website

Next upload this file to your website:

Upload this HTML file to your web server at the root folder (don't upload to a subfolder or we won't be able to access it). Root folder names vary by provider—common ones are public_html,www, or wwwroot.

Make sure you do not to rename the file when you upload it to your server, since we'll be looking for an exact name match. For example, if you download pinterest-9d541.html, we won't recognize it if you upload it with a different name, like pinterest-9d541-1.html.

NOW TO FINISH SETTING UP
Go back to Pinterest and click Finish (we’ll automatically check the file and confirm your site)

If you are not comfortable doing it this way take yourMETA TAG go to your All in one SEO - general settings, scroll down and add as in the image below

Hi Cathy - thanks for this - I've dabbled with Pinterest, but not really fully understood it. Your explanation and training has helped a lot.

I have one question - when you say not to use shortlinks, are these seen as spam by Pinterest itself, or by Google etc when indexing them?

All the best, Mark
