One of the questions folks ask me – and themselves – most frequently is how to drive more people to visit their websites. There’s no secret formula, but there are a couple of ways to increase your site traffic leveraging some WordPress.com best practices and tools.

Help Major Search Engines Find Your Site

If you want Google, Yahoo, Bing and other major search engines to index your content, go to your WordPress back office and ensure your privacy settings are set as “Visible to search engines”.

While WordPress handles a lot of SEO technicalities for you, try verifying your website with the various major search engines.

Also, if you have a niche specific business, simply instruct the Google Search Console to help have your website successfully positioned in search engine rankings. This can simply be accomplished using Webmaster Tools.

Blog Frequently

The internet is a citadel of knowledge (practical and theoretical) showing how you can boost your content’s visibility in search results. None of these theories gives a contrary opinion to that of posting high-quality, engaging and original content together with choosing relevant tags from the start.

Blogs that organize more regular and frequent publishing routines tend to grow an ideal audience more quickly. If you want to get inspired to start posting more frequently and regularly, visit the top sites.

Blogging isn’t alone meant for hobbyists. Enterprises, businesses, and professionals can leverage blogging to get noticed and grow their websites’ traffic. Frequent blogging is still the single most crucial thing you can keep doing to boost your website’s SEO (Content, king of SEO).

WordPress site owners can access several tools to customize the Meta descriptions with a text that leads to a better result, helping to potentially boost the content’s search ranking and captivating the blog readers.

Even if you have a site that has some static posts, simply add a “News” or “Blog” section which you can frequently update for search engines to always see that you have an active website. Note that if you are not frequently adding content, all the SEO best practices you implement won’t help. So, get back to regular blogging and write frequently.

Also want to know how do I put in my TXT record into step 2 of the Google Search Console? I've tried several things and it won't let me put anything in that step. Is my TXT my Admin Login URL, FTP Username, or FTP password?

Where do I find the privacy settings in my WordPress back office to ensure they are set as “Visible to search engines”?
Reply
FOta Premium
Do you mean visitors privacy page?
It's normally set as non index. Meaning it won't show in Google.
The reason being it is a template every website uses.
You might risk being seen as duplicate.
Can you explain more?

Thanks for trying to help me, but no that's not what I was asking. I wanted to know how to do this.

If you want Google, Yahoo, Bing and other major search engines to index your content, go to your WordPress back office and ensure your privacy settings are set as “Visible to search engines”.

Select the page/post by clicking Edit.
Scroll down to the bottom of the editor where you will see the SEO settings.
Mine is all-in-one SEO pack and you'll see the meta title, etc.
Just below you will see 3 box you can tick.

Thanks I'll check that out.

I see the boxes you are talking about, but my coach told me NOT to check off those boxes. So are you saying as long as these boxes are not checked off that my post is set as “Visible to search engines”?

Hello LynneClay, you're much welcome on board. I do try to respond to comments within 1 - 24 hours.

To ensure your WordPress profile is set as "visible to search engines", simply log in your WordPress account dashboard, click on Settings, then on Reading. Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you'll find the box for "Discourage search engines from indexing your site" unmarked.

Leave it unmarked, but if marked, unmark it. If you mark the box, you're discouraging search engines from indexing your site. See the image below for a clearer view. Hope this helps! Thanks for your contributions!
