Planning your writing

Write a quick plan for your article. Although I sometimes write without a plan, I'm an experienced writer and it doesn't work for everyone. I advise that you just do a quick plan and write using an article template

Standard Article Template

Article Title (Including keyword)

Introductory Paragraph
3 - 5 sentences introducing topic
Include keyword.

Body of Article
3 or more paragraphs - each one dealing with a separate point

Summary
3 - 5 sentences summarizing (not repeating) the main points.

Sample Plan - Using Standard Article Template

Article Title: Hand Knitting Tips for Left Handers Learning from a Right Handed Knitter

Introductory Paragraph:
  • Why left handed knitters are at a disadvantage
  • Challenges of learning from a right handed knitter
  • How it can be made easy
Body of Article:
  • Paragraph 1: Finding someone to learn with
  • Paragraph 2 - Holding the needles and wool for left handed knitters
  • Paragraph 3: -Working with a mirror side by side
  • Paragraph 4 - Watch don't listen
  • Paragraph 5 - Practicing with a mirror alone

Summary
Summary of the main points.

Writing your article

This is one of the most common 'article templates' that writers use. There are further exmples in my tutorial - 4 Easy Article Writing Templates.

Once you have your plan - writing your article should be fairly easy. If you suddenly have some more ideas when you're writing - make a note of them and save them for another article!

Beverley,

Your posts and training along with Magistudio's (Jay's) as well, have given me more inspiration than you two will ever know. So much so, I am printing out the 4 different writing templates right now! I've also saved some of your StreetArticles that look interesting. Thanks for all of your help...you're a great writer!

These are some great tips, Beverly. I currently have a system in place that I use but I don't believe it's a time-saver. I'm going to try this mind mapping method and see what happens!

Thanks Sonya. I hope that you find it useful. It doesn't work for everyone, but it's a method I use a lot.

This is genius! I've been trying to use an outline format to try to break things down, which has worked ok, but I just spent a few minutes trying out your suggestion and with it not being in such a strict format, it actually flowed pretty effortlessly. Now to work in some extra time for more blog/article posts. Lol. Thank you!
