Connect to Your Happiness
With your notebook of all the things which make you super happy, look for one common theme that connects all of them together. If you did not write down answers to the questions on the prior page, do it now. Do not exit out of this tutorial and check your FB or read your email or see you sent you a Twitter.
Do not get distracted, because this is an important step to discovering your core.
2. Discover Your Core
Think about what common them jumps out at you. For instance, there might be a good reason why Mrs. Howard was your favorite teacher.
I will share a story with you. My 5th grade teacher was my favorite, because what she did to encourage me. When I was in the 5th grade, I was into writing stories. My teacher noticed that about me, read some of my stories, and chose one of them to read out loud to the entire class and my classmates loved it. That inspired my creativity and love of writing.
Your friends and people who hang out with have lots of unique personalities, but there is one thing that unites them all. They all share one theme. For instance, I love being around people who make me laugh and who laugh at my jokes. I love being around people whom I can make smile. I love cheering up my friends when they are feeling blue. I love being able to put a smile back on their faces.
Find that one connective tissue that brings it all together. This is the powerful mantra which will give you that sense of purpose you are seeking and help you change the world for the better.
This is your one word, your core. Use this knowledge and engage your core.
Find that common theme in the list of answers you wrote down of what makes you truly happy. Write that common theme down. If it does not pop out of the page, then next to each of the things that make you happy, write down the reason why they make you happy.
3. Still Not There Yet.....??
Do not worry if you have not narrowed it down to one word. Try and narrow it down to five or six words that work for you. This is what I had to do. My list of five words looked something like this:
#uniqueness
#creativity
#accessibility
#charitable
#achievement
For many people, this process is long and may require additional time to reflect and you may need to do some extra digging . I know that is what I had to do. It can be a verb. It can be a noun, an adverb, an adjective, or a person's name. If your Grandma inspired you, then your word can be her name or simply just #Grandma. It can be your favorite color, it can #pink for instance.
You will get there. Keep working at it.
