What is an Email Marketing System?
An email marketing system is an automated email application designed to create leads or customers and communicate via email. An email marketer communicateswith customers and leads on a periodic basis for purposes of creating sales or providing information.
An email marketing system is consists of three parts:
- A method(s) of collecting a person’s contact information (email address at a mininum)
- A database of the contact information collected
- Email software capable of sending email to the people listed in the database
Methods of Collecting Contact Information
There are a number of ways to capture potential customer information online. Common methods include:
- landing pages (sometimes called lead capture pages)
- opt-in forms
- email text links
- surveys
- purchasing mailing lists (I never recommend buying a list)
Landing pages are specialized web pages designed to entice a viewer to submit their contact information for more information or free give-away.
Landing pages can be:
- a stand alone page within a website,
- a page on a landing page platform such as mailmunch.com or leadpage.com, or
- provided as part of an email marketing service provider like Aweber.com.
