Before we get into anything related to website creation, I want you to understand ONE thing. A website is created for PEOPLE, not search engines. This includes everything from your initial organization, to your website framework/navigation, to your actual content. If you can keep this in mind going forward, you are going to be much more successful.

In this video I am going to be walking you through the initial website framework set-up. This includes creating pages (and the difference between posts and pages) and I walk you through how to use other websites as influence when it comes to coming up with ideas for your website framework.

If you have any questions about how to properly set-up your initial framework, please leave a comment below and I will be more than happy to help you out.

Remember, people drive your business and people visit your website. They are your focus with all of your website building and organization activities!

Oddly enough my pages would not show up on my site. I titled then published them as shown. Went to my site and no sign of them. Wasted over an hour trying to figure it out. So, I just saved because I figured cos they have no content yet thats why but that doesn't really make any sense, right? Why are the pages not showing up in the Home page in menu form?

You need to create the menu to display the posts.

Did that work for you? I was having the same problem but I went to the Wordpress forum and figured out that you do have to create a menu. From the Dashboard go to Appearance ---> Menus. Create a menu (I just titled mine "Pages") and add the pages you want to add. Under menu settings you can choose to "Automatically add new top-level pages to this menu" but I left mine unchecked. In the future you might want to add pages to a different menu or at different level of the same menu, so that just gives you more control.

Yes, it worked. Took me well over an hour to figure it out = it was past 4 am with no sleep lol. Oh God, losing it. I will always know how to work those menus now lol.

Wow, Thanks for your answer. That was major to leave out of the video. An updated version of the video would be helpful to others.
You saved the day.

Yeah figured it out eventually. I don't remember seeing that in the video though.

I am watching and working as I watch this video. I added pages, and I see them when I click the pages button. When I go to my site as Kyle does in video, I don't see them at the top like he show his. What do I need to do?

Cathy this is a common question on here, Think I need to write a blog about it.

You need to go to Apperance=>Menues and either create a menu or add your pages/post to it.
Cheers

Hi Mark. I actually read most of the conversations on this problem I am having before I added my question. I went back and re-watched the video and followed it. They "still aren't there".

I have several things(niches) that I have come up with......if I'm getting this right, it doesn't matter what my site name is, doesn't matter how many (niches) I come up with..... The whole idea is writing content, getting ranked, getting hits..... And can we become affiliates of several company's like Amazon, Fancy, Geek, Best Buy, etc......?...?..

Your site name does matter. It's important every aspect of your blog or brand has a congruent message. So your site name and domain should be related to the niche you choose. It also makes your site easier to find and remember.

Yes you can join or apply to rather, any number of affiliate programs that provide products or services relevant to your niche.

Thanks for your response. I need to stick to my game plan. I have so many I think about and I am going with what I know and have always been on top of most of my life. I have domain names ShopAllOutdoor.com (outdoor hiking, camping, gps, gadgets, cooking, gear) and GeekGear.org (tech stuff). What do you think? I was a boyscout in Germany, and camped in Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and still buy gear and love outdoors. I managed an Electronic store for Tandy name brand (Mcduff Electronics) back when we had bag phones, when everyone was buying computers, satellite tv, that era) and also managed large accounts for AT&T. I can predict thw next hot thing tech wise, a year before it does . Any input I greatly appreciate, as i feel like this is my last chance for any type of retirement .

Both cool ideas. You could even merge them and do tech for outdoors. A modern/futuristic spin on camping and outdoor activities.

Either one will work. So I guess the choice will come down to which one you can pump out content for more easily. Which would come more natural to you. The tech predictions thing could be its own little section on your blog... kinda of like your trademark.

I'm in no hurry as I see it...this video was a good one on that it entwines with the previous lessons, over and over again I just have to keep doing the same thing...it seems that my progress is best when I take action ...I took the time to hammer out my about me page, getting started and my privacy policy in previous lessons, but now it's getting more understandable as I take action and stay involved...

Hi Kyle,

As I was going through the Video of Course 1, Lesson 8 about "Creating our first Web page" following your instruction I notice that on your page there is a small note :
Copyright 2014 How to Lose Belly Fat Today

Should we also have something like that or should we register our page for Copyright or else ??????
Reply

You can have that as well, but obviously you will want to update this to reflect the current date. In the case of my site I should be updating this to 2017 (which I will get done).

2 Questions on creating initial Website Framework :

1- I created 4 pages like explained in the video, push publish for each of them but when I go back to my site. It does not appear... ?

2- On my new site dashboard page, it is mentioned :
This theme recommends the following plugin: Kirki
Begin installing plugin | Dismiss this notice
What I should do ? And is it the reason for not appearing on my website lnding page ?

Great stuff...I've Always wanted to build a Website, but thought only techies could do that, not me at age 60....I do have a question, can you change the order of the tabs? mine has the "Privacy Policy" in the middle, I think it goes better at the end. I created it last, but it shows up in the middle on the website.

Good video. I somehow managed to make my life more difficult than necessary as I have choosen a Theme that seems to have two layers, so I do have the normal dashboard as shown by Kyle, and another website editor provided by the theme builder. Unfortunately my new pages do not inmediately transfer to my menu by default and I need to add it to a Menu ( it allows for several) inside the Theme editor. It is not impossible, but it adds an extra layer of nuisance that is better if people are aware that such thing can happen.
Happy website creation!

I haven't seen a theme yet that automatically sends pages to the menu. Not saying there aren't any. The video shows you how to manually add pages to the menu and how to manage the menus

If your theme is set up for a blog roll and not a static page, you posts will automatically . Be added and seen the moment a visitor is on your site.

The theme editor of mine seems to have an option to add the top pages automatically to the menu, but apparently only if you upgrade to the professional version of the theme.
Reply

I see, I have noticed that feature as well and never really looked into how it works. That sucks that you have to upgrade your theme in order to use that feature.

It seems to be quite common in Wordpress templates and plugins, you get certain level of functionality for free ( or cheaper depending on your hosting platform), but if you want full functionality you need to pay them more the SEO seems to have that too I noticed today.

Color me finished on the page creation. That was easier than I thought. Looking forward to learning how to make it look professional and respectable, because too many affiliate sites I've experienced look like bait and I want mine to be a respectable resource which just so happens to earn me income if you buy the stuff I write about and promote. I'll likely need help with the polish. I am so glad to have all this support! :-D

Hello,
I did as instructed: created 3 new pages: about, privacy policy and Flowers for diy brides. For some reason, they do not appear on my menu across the top of the page. Would anyone have an insight why this is happening. I can see the pages in the back office and can view the text I wrote on the About page but when I view the page by selecting "view page" at the top of the screen, I cannot see any of the newly created pages. Thanks, Sanja

Did you add the pages to the menu? I believe it is covered in lesson 2, course 2. Very simple...follow step by step. It is often a good idea to review course videos if you think you've missed something, or feeling confused. Hope this helps.

When I first created the initial 3 pages for this lesson, they didn't show up when I went to view the website. Even after refreshing the view. Somebody in live chat gave me a link for a workaround to create a custom menu.

I'm wondering if it's likely that I did (or failed to do) something in the setup process that caused the default menu to not show up correctly.

coachyoro Premium
When you click "pages" are they pages you created in the list? If not, you did not "publish" the pages. If so, you have to create a custom menu for the template you chose.

I hope this helps.

Unbelievable, just unbelievable how easy that was. You have no idea how much confusion I encountered trying to figure out on my own, at one time, how to get content under a tab across my Wordpress site instead of on a blog roll. And, there you spelled it out so simple. It's just the difference between a page and a post! I"m luvin' it, just luvin' it, how easy you guys make all of this. Can't wait to learn more.

Hi. I just added the template pages (About Me Page, Privacy Page, Site Content Page) and they are not showing up on my website when I refresh it. Did I miss a step to make sure they appear on the website? I am sing the Word Press Template called "UPRIGHT". Thank you.

I'm getting anxious already. I have tried working online in the past and here is usually where I get stuck and end up not continuing. I'm going to need a little help. I am going to stick with this until I start to see results and go as far as I possibly can. I want my son and any other children my husband and I may have to also be able to do this. So far so good though.

Initially when I created the 3 pages it didn't show up on my website I kept trying out to find out why but couldn't figure it out . By looking around I found out I could use buttons I hope using the menu early doesn't mess up my website for something menu is going to be used for later .. if anyone has any tips why it didn't work for me at first and if using menu is a bad idea let me know thanks

Using a menu is the right way to do it.

What do you do when you find out your niche is primarily covered by major networks only and not blog sites. I'm 5-6 pages into the google search and almost every page is the site of a major player. Though my keyword search did not produce traffic results above 100 normally and the competition was low.

I am trying to do this and and it is not working. Even the updates I did for the SEO are not coming up. I looked at Labman's video and even though my word press says it is updated, looks nothing like his. Mine still looks like the one on Kyle's video. I have added pages and they show up when I click the pages link, but not on my website. What am I doing wrong? Thanks!

You need to create a menu in the menu section, then add the Page to the menu list. See Labman's link a bit further down for training on how to do this. ~Jude

I took a break for a couple weeks from my studies to help my daughter and her family get a new home ready and move in. When I came back to this video it was like I was seeing it new again. Reviewing known information really solidifies my thoughts and develops my understanding.
I'm amazed how much there is to learn and yet how easy it is to learn it - one task at a time.

Thanks for explaining keyword search Kyle. You made the process very clear, and understandable! Jaxxy is quite a tool. WA Keyword search was simple to use. When I looked to the left of my screen I was always tempted to click that line but I've found its better not to get ahead. Staying with the program is simpler. Moving on!

very cool video, but I cant seem to center my site page. for example at the top of my 3 pages from left to right it's about me, privacy policy, then the top movie and game picks. does the system put these in alphabetical order no matter what? because i tried to edit the second page and saved it, but it did not change?

Quick question: In order for the about me, privacy policy, website name saved pages to appear do you have to use the theme Kyle uses in the video? I chose a Kakina theme and did as instructed in the video (hit publish per page, even logged out & back in) but the pages don't appear to be on the site. Thank you ahead of time for any guidance or help :)

Makes no difference what theme you use. In order for pages to appear on your site you need to add them to your sites Menu. Or you can create text links and have them in a widget in your side bar or footer, even a footer menu if your theme supports that.

I did a traning video regarding menus: I also did a few about widgets: I also have all kind of other training regarding wordpress,

Hope this helps
