Backlinks are one of the ranking factors when it comes to search engines like Google. There are a lot of places or avenues from which your competitors could be building credible links. As such, you cannot rest on assumption. Take a look at the business directories, niche sites that feeds your competitors with backlinks will not be out of place.
There are several tools available for checking backlinks. While some are free others are not free. You can take advantage of Semrush, Ahref, NielPatel and lots more. Other things you will want to see alongside backlinks might be the traffic volume or the reach of your competitor’s website.
5. Availability of Snippets
Some search results come with extra information. It can be in terms of images, videos, ratings or other important information. When search results come up with this snippets, they give more value to users. There is a probability that your competitors are using snippets.
It will impact on their website ranking and their click-through rate. Investigate what they are doing and how it is been implemented on their website. You can use Google search to compare such performance.
I have been doing my best to study potential competitors sites as advised by another member here the other day, but wasn't really sure what I was looking for.
