This can be quite a time consuming step, but don't skip this!

Just to quickly explain this to you. Ok so you've done your keyword research and there are some incredible keywords available and you are so excited... it's a done deal right?

I mean one of the keywords has only 30 competitors and the traffic is like 10 000 odd?

No, this is NOT a done deal. There are 30 competitors, but how strong are each of those competitors? Who is on page 1 and can you outrank them?

This is what you need to know. If you can't outrank anyone on page 1 that 10 000 traffic means absolutely nothing!

So check each keyword you have chosen and see who is on page 1.

I suggest that you watch Jay's webinar on this, absolutely outstanding... https://my.wealthyaffiliate.com/training/keyword-c...

But here is a quick checklist for what you are looking at:

1. Check if any are e-commerce sites. You will struggle to outrank any of these.

2. Are any of them social networks, Youtube videos? This is a big time YAY!

3. If you are a review website and there are other review websites... YAY! You have a chance of outranking them.

OK so those 3 things will give you an overview of what you are up against. The next step is to check all these things for each website, I suggest doing it in an excel spreadsheet like Jay suggests in his webinar:

1. Is the keyword in the title?

2. Is the keyword in the url?

3. Is the keyword in the meta description?

(If no to all 3 above, this is great. If you add your main keyword in all these places you could very possibly outrank even a strong website)

4. What is the Page Authority of the post?

5. What is the Domain Authority of the post?

6. How many external backlinks are there to this post and how strong are they? For example if there is a wiki link to this post your chances are getting slimmer to out ranking it... but if there are 10 weak back links you may still be in the game.

7. Is this a weak URL? Taking all the above into consideration would you say it is weak or not?

8. Is this a weak domain?

So once you have all the competitors on page 1 in a spreadsheet you will at a glance be able to see which keywords you have the best chance of ranking for.
