In order to start capturing email addresses, we need a way to both capture and store the addresses.

There are many services available, both free and paid.

For our purpose, we will use MailChimp.

To go to the signup page, click this link:

===> https://login.mailchimp.com/

And then click on "Create an account"

After completing the signup form, you will go through a series of pages.

First page is the confirmation page:

Thanks for signing up!

Please check your email and click Activate Account in the message we just sent to you@yourdomain.com.

Next page is a fancy captcha page:

Confirm Humanity

Before we get your account set up, we need to confirm you are a human (it's a spam prevention thing). Check the box below and click the "confirm signup" button.

Let's Get Started

As part of the registration process, there is some information that MailChimp MUST collect and without which you will be unable to proceed.

Once you have completed the info required for the Get Started page, you will be moved to the Dashboard.

You now have a MailChimp account and it is time to start to use it!

This is a great tutorial, although my non-techie self is still having issues. The first form I created on Mail Chimp does not look like the form that comes up when I click on the embedded version.

I read in the MailChump knowledgebase that the embedded form WILL differ in appearance from the form on the MC site. I am in the process of getting this all figured out myself.

Dfishell, the form, as is displays on your website will display differently than how it was created on the MailChimp site, however, depending on the options you choose, the various fields will display

This is incredibly great training. I have been trying to do it since you posted it. I could not figure out how to get the code for the form that I built inside Mailchimp. But I have got a form built. I will let you know through the stages. Thank you so much. .... and Yahoo - I now have an account with Mailchimp. Awesome.

just to make sure, were you able to get the code?

if the instruction was not clear enough -- please let me know so that it can be made more clearly understood

No I wasn't yet. When I go to the embed section, I can only get code for a generic form, not the form that I created under list. I finally chat-talked with a staffer, and they directed me to mailchimp for wordpress plugins instead of telling me where to find the code. I tried their recommended plugins, which required me to change my captcha version. That really screwed up my site, so I ended up removing them and am back at square one, trying to find the code. Mailchimp is not making this easy or perhaps my old eyes are just not seeing the link I am looking for. I will try my old method of setting your instructions on one open browser and mailchimp on another open browser side by side and following you step by step. That may clear my confusion. Thank you so much for all your efforts. I am grateful to you.

I did consider showing the mailchimp for wordpress plugin, but the free version is limited to only one mailchimp signup form

the embed code does change to reflect any changes that are made to the form

the key is to copy those changes and paste them into the your website (I just add a step in between of copying to a notepad first and then to your website)

if you do not change the code on your website, the form on your website will not change
