Hey all...I should move continents more often...its way early in the morning here and my brain says "enough sleep already"...so thought I'd use time wisely and add some training...

Here at WA we see a lot of lessons devoted to Social Media and we engage in a lot of discussion with other members about social media to build business by gaining a following, getting your content shared and building that all important traffic to your site (and therefore your products and links)

Within these conversations we see talk of Facebook, Twitter, Google +, Pinterest etc....

I was never a fan of social media...but I most definitely see the benefits for business. Those of you who have read some of my other traning and blogs know that I'm forever baging on about the brilliance of Pinterest and Tumblr ...now I want to introduce you to the one social network that outperforms every other (for me) and gets me the most social traffic to my website/s.

Reddit!

Reddits slogan is that of being "the front page of the internet" and for good reason. Reddit above all other social media platforms has beeen used successfully by thousands of online businesses to get traffic to their site. its not unknown for a single post to get thousands of views within an hour or two of publication.

The great news - anyone can achieve this level of hits. In my experience within 1 hour of posting a new blog article I start getting reddit hits and likes/up-votes and then traffic to my site. Reddit visitors seem to hang around as well...usually several pages and several minutes each (great for the bounce rate in analytics)

The not so great news - this is going to take work and patience (but in my experience your time is far better spent developing your Reddit threads....I have little to very little success in getting sales from FB and Twitter....so I spend time on reddit..and for me...time well spent.)

The main point is to begin slow with reddit...I'll explain more as we go through this training.

Thanks so much. I appreciated the information. If I had known this earlier I wouldn't have gotten permanently banned on the r/forex subreddit. Do you have any ideas on how I can get admitted again? The guy that banned me is a real bad dude. There are several moderators there.
Reply

Here is link explaining that you must private message the moderators to request your ban to be lifted.

https://reddit.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/204537789-I-ve-been-banned-Why-How-do-I-get-unbanned-

There is another link on that page that sends you to the private message prompt. Enter the subreddit in the recipient section and the message will go directly to the mod of that subreddit.

It is worth mentioning that creating a new account to get around the ban is against reddit's terms of service.

This sounds more awesome the second time around. I must have created an account way back when and didn't understand what I was doing so I left.

I can't stand Twitter and hardly ever post there. I think I will start a new profile, my old username does not reflect my website name or brand at all, and beginning building my Karma here instead.

You recommend sharing other WA members content. Is there a way to find members who are members of Reddit?

Is this something that we want to do after building our karma?

Hi Jason. Thank you for explaining about Reddit. I just stumbled upon it today while browsing the internet, wanted more information so I came back to WA as I knew I would find what I needed to know in our community.
I'm definitely going to join. With so many users (over 36 million in 2015) it sounds like a great way to potentially get traffic to websites.
I was also reading about the Slashdot effect but doubt that would happen.

Hello Jason! Reading your tutorial I realize why I failed with my first account. I got this stealth ban everybody speaks about. It seems to be too demanding to work with. I am not sure whether to try again with new account, or not.

What would you suggest in this situation? How much time do you put in it?

Apologies about taking 2 years to reply....embarrassed smile
You've probably figured it out...but in the Hope the response may be useful for others .... I spend very little time and put little effort into Reddit.
The initial profile set up is probably the most time consuming element. Then I simply share my posts as i develop them. And occasionally browse for topics that interest me.
The things to keep in mind is....1 post per day max. Dont send out lots or you'll be hit with penalty. If your site or post is a sales script...Dont publish as you'll be penalized. If its great information it'll be welcomed and upvoted.
It's ok to contain some sales pitch I.e. a recommended.product but 90% of your post (in terms submitting to Reddit) should be valuable information related to the subreddit or opinion etc

Hello Jason, I found you through Paul goodwin, He said he has learnt a lot from Jason, so I searched for Jason and there was a few Jasons, luckily you were right at the top.

I have been getting their emails for a while but haven`t had the time to thoroughly check them out till now?

When you say post one a day, would you start by posting post/pages from your website before starting new posts?

Great training here, I am now following you too.

Cheers,

Lou

Not sure if you were asking Jason in particular since you flagged for community help, but...

Yes, it's great if you can make one post per day on your website. If you are very busy or work full-time I think it would be acceptable to make a post per week. But if you are able to do it daily that would greatly accelerate your success.

Hi, Yes, I didn`t hear back from Jason, I did send a Small post to Reddit about me being new and my interests etc, but didn`t get any reply, I think I had email enabled ok.

When you say post one a day, would you start by posting post/pages from your Website before starting new posts???

And would you take out your Amazon links from the first couple of post so It don`t look Like you are trying to sell them STUFF???

Also do you have to read one of their posts first before I post MINE??
Reply
JasonGB Premium
Hey Lou,
Glad you enjoyed it. I would start by sharing other Reddit users posts...increase your Karma...then begin sharing your website posts 1 at a time...no more than once a day initially
Reply
LH-CLUB Premium
Thanks for that,

My website posts have Amazon links, would you take the links out before I start sharing them, I don`t want them to think I am Spamming them from the OFF??

Would you mind taking a quick look, Jason?

At this time I am getting more visitors from Reddit than the search engines where I'm still in the cellar on SEO. What kind of Karma score is good? Mine is only 3. I am not getting the huge numbers you are talking about and most visitors from Reddit are not going beyond the specific page used in the link.
Reply
Labman Premium
Depending on the Sub-Reddit, it can be difficult to attract customers in a buying mode from Reddit. Promotion is a no-no over there so can be difficult for a marketer.
Reply
KDClover Premium
Right now I think there may be a problem of too few chess players on Reddit. I'm getting less referrals now from the 2 links that previously sent visitors to my site. I spent a lot of time on my website creating pages and links for chess books only to find that visitors to my site are more likely to look at chess sets, chess clocks, or chess computers. I have that stuff on my site too but much fewer pages and listings. Most of the chess players on Reddit are either grandmasters or low ranked players. I am neither of those.
I previously had a visitor who looked at an expensive chess clock advertised on my site. I later discovered it was a commercial interest
that wanted to see how my site was promoting the product.
Reply
JasonGB Premium
Keep interacting and commenting. The more you engage the greater your site engagement increases.
Reply
JasonGB Premium
Agreed . Best to use Reddit as engagement platform and build an interested following ..
Reply
JasonGB Premium
Higher the better. But in reality once you're above 10 you'll be seen as a Reddit regular and someone who engages. Most marketers have given up or been blocked before they reach 10
Reply
KDClover Premium
I made the discovery that there is a huge difference between the "Chess" subreddit and the "Better Chess", "Shitty Chess", and "Computer Chess" subreddits. The first has a much bigger following than the others. Therefor a posted link produces far more visitors. I had over 20 Reddit referrals last night but none of them clicked on an affiliate link or went to other pages on my site. There have also been Reddit referrals today and 3 clicks on ShareaSale links. But no sales.
My concern is shifting more and more towards the problem of conversions. So far no one has clicked on an Amazon link. No one has clicked on a "House of Staunton" link either. But none of the ShareaSale clicks are producing sales.
The most recent subreddit link post sent readers to http://cloverchess.com/chess-clocks using the title "Which chess clock is Best? Chronos II, DGT 2010, or VTEK 300 Ultimate Chess Clock?
I need to have the chess clocks page reviewed to see why it's not motivating people to do anything.
Reply
KDClover Premium
Last night my Karma score was 5. Today it is 2. The most recent link post about check clocks has been getting voted down. One of the comments indicated resentment over the fact that the page contained affiliate links. The first link post I did about a specific chess computer's inability to correctly evaluate a position has been getting voted up. I am getting visitors now who go directly to the chess clock page from the browser window. It doesn't show up on Google Analytics as a Reddit referral but it probably is.

Reply

I received one point. It seems in all of the groups, you cannot post affiliate links. I did manage to link back to site domains through an article on my website and trying to stay within the rules, but then I see someone posted a WA affiliate link in their response. Maybe the moderator is lenient? Frustrating to follow the rules and then someone else breaks them. Reddit is still a bit confusing, but I'll keep trying.

My family exploded, in a sense, so I have been otherwise occupied. That is part of it. My Mom's dementia went off the scale this past week, culminating in extreme crazy last night. This time of year is planting time, so I'm adding much more to my gardens this year which should help in the show and tell for my blog concerning promotion. It's one thing to tell them how to do it, but if I can photograph results, it should be a big help. Especially on sites generated by graphics like Pinterest and Instagram. So I'm starting coffee seeds, planting apple trees, reorganizing the grow house (shed), ordering more seeds, picking up equipment, helping my Mom remember what day it is and doing the laundry and cooking. Tomorrow morning looks good though, think I'll stop by Reddit then.

Jason, HELP please!

I signed up today, contributed here and there, and then in GetMotivated subreddit decided to share one of my blog posts about benefits of rising early (as it's motivational one and self-help stuff).
My article was automatically considered as spam.

I contacted the moderator and he was pretty rude without any clear explanation - and then this is what I get (see picture).

What the hell? What do I do??

I definitely don't feel amazing right now...

Thank you,

Reply
JasonGB Premium
Sadly some Reddit moderators are similar in approach to the Gestapo.
In fairness to those decent moderators they only see activity level and with new accounts they are suspicious ...They won't see you shared others work or commented or posted . That's why it's safer initially, as stated in training to start with comments and sharing other users posts before your own..and only 1 or 2 until karma rises.
Best thing to do is ignore the rudeness and find other subreddits.
I had a similar experience but replied to the moderator explaining I had no intention of spamming and felt that my content benefited the subreddit ...luckily he was good and agreed. He explained that activity above 1-2 a day naturally gets flagged spam especially in newly created accounts.
Don't take it personally. There's many great moderators who do an awesome job
Reply
JasonGB Premium
Yes. Reply to the comment explaining you're new, had no intention of spamming and feel your post was relevant and unique ....usually they lift the ban when they realise it's a real person posting rather than spambots

Search Reddit for subreddits in your niche
Start by adding comments to discussions
Then post a link to one of your best posts
With Reddit slow approach . With new accounts they will see you as Spam if you post more than once a day. Even getting Karma to 6-8 is good enough to then regularly post your work
