It's a Pyramid Scheme!
Have You ever had anyone say "It's a Pyramid Scheme, Ponzi Scheme or Scam"?
I know that I have and many times at that, even about Wealthy Affiliate.
How ridiculous is that?
I'm not saying that they are bad people, What I am saying is that people are more likely to be negative than positive when it comes to something that is unconventional and maybe not within their comfort zone.
It's easy to be negative and say that something is a Pyramid Scheme, Ponzi Scheme or Scam, The hard thing to do is to take a look at an opportunity for what it is.
Many of us, Me included have had situations where maybe we have been caught by a Pyramid Scheme, Ponzi Scheme or Scam so we are more sensitive to not getting burnt again.
I also believe that sometimes things are as we make them, Good people produce good and bad people produce bad.
I'm not saying to completely trust everything that is presented to you, What I am saying is to not be so quick to judge things that you know little or nothing about and don't be so quick to say "It's a Pyramid Scheme"

Thanks for this one,Tony. Was just in a discussion the other day with someone who maintains that all MLM without exception has been a scam...wait a minute!
Some of the younger folks seem to think the internet was always here, and things are now the way they've always been. But, there was a time when the MLM system was about the only way you could market things nation wide without a huge bricks and mortar infrastructure.
If all MLM has always been bad, then why is my 20 year old Rainbow vacuum still running like new and why do I still see people driving new pink Mary Kay cars?
I admit that affiliate marketing is vastly superior, even if both were completely honest and above board. But WA could not have existed before the internet came along.

Trouble is there are so many scams out there, not just on the internet but also banking scams etc that many people are too ready to condemn without really knowing anything about what they are condemning. Elvis sang about 'Suspicion' maybe not quite the same thing but a great song!
I actually got into an argument with my mother the other day telling me to get a "real job" instead of living an online business pipe dream and letting wealthy affiliate "steal" my money. That really upset me, she would say something like that about something I'm trying to accomplish. Now I'm determined to work even harder at it and I'm going to make her eat her words by taking her on a two-week vacation all expenses paid from money made from my website when it gets to that point.
As long as you are able to support yourself until your dreams and goals become a reality, the bias that you are receiving from your Mother is common fear for her child's well being...I'm 57 ears old and I'm still my mother's child. You can ease that fear by sharing you plans for achieving that dream. Once she sees the you are on a path and are achieving results that lead to the goal, her fears will diminish. Amazing how children can diminish our fears through pride we feel for their accomplishments.
I know... heh... moms will be moms...... I just want to show her it's possible so we will stop worrying so much
Yes, that's why pretty much no one in my family even knows what I do. My husband and parents, (to a point) know.... but even then, it confuses them and I can't really talk much about it, or their eyes glaze over. If I start talking to anyone else about it - their eyes also glaze over lol....
Hey Tony, great post. I have seen a lot of negative comments regarding online businesses especially when you look at some forums. A lot of the negative comments come from those that have either not even tried a business or they bought into it and when they didn't make millions overnight it must be a pyramid scheme or scam.

Very true when it comes to pioneering something that is perceived to be 'easy'. Soon as the words 'make money online' come about in conversations at work, its followed by the words scam.
Most of the time it is said by the people that are afraid to take risks.

Thank you Tony. The other thing that people can't understand is why I am putting in the effort and money into this venture when I haven't made any profits yet. They don't think it is possible. I hope I will be able to prove to them that the hard work pays off monetarily, since they don't understand any of the other benefits.
Thank you for sharing this and I must admit when I try to explain what WA is, I can see the expressions I get back, I know what theyre thinking then I feel I have to justify what i am doing because they dont believe its not a pyramid scheme just because I talk about online marketing.....
Yes Tony . I wouldnt be hanging around if i thorght WA was any of the above .
It took me awhile ti appreciate what WA actually was about . Its a fabulous resource that we sometimes underestimate .
Its like the new car you buy . Once you learn to drive it you wouldnt have anything else .

Right on Tony. Our cognitive biases are a stumbling block for many people in reaching beyond their current comfort zones. Many fail to realize that to move forward you have to accept some calculated risk...but that takes many out of their comfort zone. So, they feel safe in their zone by putting general labels on what reminds them of pain or danger. It reminds me of an old Asian Proverb..."Note the turtle. He makes no forward progress until he sticks his neck out."
