Experiences Not all that their made out to be or Nothing seems to be going right

Each day is filled with experiences. Some we consciously choose others seem to happen to us. Some strengthen us others weaken us. Said another way, some are enjoyable and others not so.

This seemed to become a matter of perspective and focus.

I recently had an experience that wasn’t so enjoyable and to be honest still challenges me today as I write this. It really put some stress on me to the level that I was depressed most of the day. In giving myself some space, I was able to regain perspective that what I was missing during my previous day was a sense of accomplishment ~ I felt like I couldn’t do anything right all day long. Did you ever have one of those days? I speculated do we need to have wins or accomplishments throughout our day as well as challenges? Does a win or accomplishment give us a self-confidence a boost? Does the win or accomplishment say that we’re good at what we’ve done? Or more globally does a win or accomplishments verify our self-worth?

All of these answers seemed outer dependent. Circumstances change. Experiences change. So if we look to circumstance to qualify our worth we’ll naturally be up and down and there will be days where “I just don’t seem to do anything right”. But what if we were to change our perspective or focus and decided that it wasn’t the experience that was going to define how we feel about ourselves but the other way around, we are going to define how we feel about the experience. Better yet, we are going to define how we feel about ourselves and let the experience be neutral. And based on that, we are going to no longer judge ourselves either positively or negatively based on experiences. We are going to decide that we are magnificent persons experiencing and we will remain magnificent after the experience.

Thank you for reading my musings.

I love your analogy Tom, keep up the good work.

George, I appreciate you reading my blog ~ thank you for your encouragement.

I was feeling that way today, like I've achieved nothing but of course it's entirely wrong when I think about it. My problem is, I have things to do which take me away from my IM work. I then perceive I've not done anything. I have, in fact, done a lot today but they're all menial tasks that have got to be done. So Tom, I will change my thinking and be pleased that I've got those damn chores out of the way! Thanks for the blog, Ches

Chessie I know what you mean we're so focused on our direction that we miss the journey! Thank you for reading & sharing and enjoy the journey!

Good through =^-^=

Hmmm, reality is, there are bad days and good days. Depends on how you will deal with it.

Well said ~ and the better we learn to deal with them brings on more better days! Thank you.

Alexander - thank you for reading my post ~ you are so right about the success mindset!

Hi Tom,
very interesting,
I seem to be having a lot of those nothings going right days lately

Hello Ian ~ I have found it's truly a matter of focus ~ on "those days" I focus on the "other days" you know those that went well or I go a little crazy and make a fabulous day up in my mind and then play with that till I feel better! Thank you.

Good post and certainly gets us thinking, I feel that the only thing we have control of is ourselves and we can choose how to deal with any given situation,, and I have had more than my share of those days lol

Katie absolutely spot on. Thank you.

This reminds me of my conversations with my Aunt. She constantly reminds me that I can only change or control myself and how I react and interact to situations and experiences.

Rebecca your Aunt sounds very wise! Thank you for sharing.
