Yes, you have to be a premium member.

Thanks Ed,
I just needed to check, I wasn't quite sure and I didn't want to put the wrong information in the article I'm writing.

Hi. You have to be a premium member to have your own domain hosted here. You do have 2 free siterubix sites available to you as a free member though. :)

Hi Michelle, Thank you for your help, I didn't think you could, but I wasn't sure, I'm writing an article about site domains and I don't want to put the wrong information in it.

I see. Never hurts to check and be sure about something. :)

I'm using the Oceanic WordPress theme with the recent posts front page instead of a static front page, this shows an excerpt of the posts with a featured image, everything was

Ooops! You've changed your Media Settings. Go to Settings > Media and take the tick out of the box where it says "crop thumbnail to exact dimensions"

Hi Marion,
Thank you for you help,
I've tried your suggestion and it doesn't change anything,
I think there must have been an update in the theme which has changed something, i may have to contact the theme developer to see if they know.

Looks like images are too wide, all of your images are on the side of your preview. You must resize before setting as featured image. Look at the ones that are not too wide and copy the size width for the new images.
John

Hi John,
Thank you for your reply
The images that have been cropped are already smaller than the full images
I think the theme converts the featured image to a thumbnail size for the excerpt but for some reason, it started to crop them

Pull each image up in your Media and look at its size. It will be the 200X350 number by the edit the picture on the right side. If the image is wider, the second number than the ones that fit, it will crop them. Use the resize button to change the numbers. Don't just go by the thumbnail size, you may have to do this for each image to make it work.
John

Hi John,
I've tried adjusting the sizes of all the images, and know matter what I do, it doesn't change the featured images in the post excerpts on the front page, there must be have been an update in the theme that has changed something, because until the end of January they're all ok but since then they are cropped, so I may have to contact the developer to see if a change has been made.

are you using all the same sizes,, wondered if this would help

Hi Katie,
Thank you for your help,
I think it's an issue with the theme, it's supposed to convert the featured image to a thumbnail size for the excerpt, it was ok up until the last few posts and now it's cropping the widths of the images

Have you tried contacting the developer , has Marion's suggestion helped

Hi Katie,
Marion's suggestion didn't work, so I may have to contact the developer for help

Hi,
I've received a comment on my jaaxy page comparing it to 2 other systems which I have never heard of, I have looked at them, and I think they are a bit too advanced for

Talk about what you know and stay from boloney. You have access to Jaaxy but you also have access to Keyword tool and that is free. Pretty strong and true.

Hi Dick,
Thanks for your help and advice

Reply as to what you think about the others. If you think they may be to advanced for some newbies, say so. If you really think Jaaxy is better, tell them why. Keep it brief if you don't know that much about it and thank them fo taking the time to read and comment on your site.

Hi Broderick, thank you for your help and advice, its much appreciated.

My take, just ignore the comment. We have here at WA...a service and a product, tried and true.

Hi Coney, Thank you for your comment

There is always honesty. You don't know about the others, but you stay on the fact that Jaaxy is a very good tool and easy to use etc.Just a thought.
Ed

Hi Ed, This is my inexperience coming out, I haven't had any site comments yet to deal with, so I wasn't sure the best way to approach the reply until I received the comments from my question here at WA,

Thanks for your help and advice

You are welcome!

Why not just reply with what you told us. Never heard of them, but thanks for the suggestions.

Hi Janelle, thank you for your comment and advice

Thanks Tosh, I read all the comments and there is a good take on things.

Marty

Thanks Marty

I took a look at serpstats and saw nothing that I could not get out of webmaster tools. The ahref's I have used before and is good but costly. He is comparing apples to oranges. Apparently, he does not know enough about Jaaxy to understand what it can do. There is a ton of information that you can get out of Jaaxy but it is simple to use. Just leave him alone. You might mention something to the effect about jaaxy being easy to use... once you know how and is a much more affordable tool than these others in the paid forms.

Hi Glenda,
They are only comparing the free version of jaaxy to the free versions of the others, and with like anything that's free, you don't get all the benefits and features, I did check out the price of the other platforms, they did seem very costly compared to the paid version of jaaxy. Still being relatively new here with little experience, I got confused because I don't really know what the other systems are about. This is only the second site comment I've received, and I was worried I couldn't answer it properly.
Thank you for you help and advice

This sounds a lot like spam. I'd reject it, especially if it links to someone else's affiliate company.

Hi Marion, not sure it's spam, the commenter gave me a name and email address, and the tools they used to compare to jaaxy are completely different

Has this commenter put in his URL? If so have you checked it to see if they are promoting either of the programs they mention?

Hi Ken, no URL, just a gmail, email address

Ok thanks. Maybe just answer their comment by saying something like you value their comment and investigated their suggestions but.....................and give them more positive reasons for using Jaaxy,

thanks Ken for your help and advice, investigating the others could be a good idea.
If they compare to jaaxy, I could possibly do reviews about them

How about saying openly that you know nothing about those tools but you know something about your product?

HI Jovo,
That's probably the best way to go, otherwise I might end up digging myself into a big hole trying to comment on something I know nothing about.
Thanks for your help and advice

When I write a page or post using the visual editor in my dashboard, i write it and lay it out as i want to see it on my site page, but when i check to see what it looks like w

Are you inserting images as you write? Best to do that after all the script is done. Cleared cache? Rebooted? I hope I'm not insulting you.
I write everything in Word then copy/paste over to the site. Always works. The solution is near.

Hi Dick, I'm still in the very early stages so my knowledge is still very basic, so your definitely not insulting me, I stIll have a lot to learn

I don't add images until the end, even then I still have to do a lot of adjustment to the text.
My common sense is telling me I think the problem is something to do with the page width of the visual editor, but I haven't a clue how to fix it.
I've tried writing it with word and google docs then copying and pasting, but as soon as I paste it into the editor it adjusts the text like it's making it fit into a wider page, then when I check the preview for my site it's all out of place.
Its probably something ridiculously simple that I'm doing wrong as no one else seems to have this problem, but it's very frustrating!!..

Have you added some kind of font editor plugin? Those are very often the cause of this kind of messing - ups

Hi Loes,
Yes, I have the TinyMCE advanced plugin, but it doesn't affect it, if I deactivate it I still have the same problem.
The problem starts when I finish a sentence or paragraph halfway along a line, then start the next sentence on the following line, as I have done here.
When I preview the site page to check the layout, the new sentence has moved and is now starting more than halfway along the line instead of at the left where it was in the visual editor.
When you look at it, it looks like the next sentence/ paragraph is starting halfway along the line which is not correct, it should be to the left side.
It then has a knock-on effect for the rest of the page, and the whole layout looks horrible and a mess.
I hope this makes sense.

Do you have a webaddress to take a look?

I think the website pages look ok now because I have fixed them all, my website is http://successfulworkonline.com, if you visit my site and click the build a website now page it should look ok, but if you look at the screenshot I've attached, this is how it looks in my visual editor,
If I make it look right in the editor it becomes messed up in the site page

You should use the plain text button, if you ask me, you are pasting content which has it's own html attached.
Use notepad to pre-write your content and not a word-program

Hi Loes, thank you for your help, I think i know why its happening now,
Im using the spacer bar tab to move the cursor down to the next line to start a new sentence instead of pressing the enter/next line button on my keyboard, this seems to have solved the problem, it just means there is a space between paragraphs or new sentences, but this seems to be normal.

Use shift + enter

Thank you again for your help Loes, it's much appreciated

How exactly is it "messed up"? Is it just the format? themes are usually optimized for desktop/mobile/tablet and will look a little different on all of them.

Hi Aaron, I'm no expert, but it looks like the page widths are different, when I compare the two with an example sentence that fits the width of the visual editor page, it doesn't fit to the width of the website page, so to me it looks like the site page is narrower, so if I do a 1000 word page in the visual editor it looks horrible in the site page because its all moved around to fit. I hope this makes sense..

It does, and from this info I assume you have a sidebar? Best I could suggest is to periodically preview the page as you edit it. Find out how long you need each line to be maybe? It's still going to look much different when a viewer checks your page say on a mobile device vs a desktop/laptop and it seems traffic nowadays is close to 50/50. So personally I suggest not breaking lines down to a certain length and just typing up the paragraphs and letting it format as it goes, and moving media around to accommodate.

I do have a sidebar, I've tried to write in my visual editor using the same width as the site page, this doesn't work either.
If I finish a paragraph halfway along a line then start the next paragraph on the following line, aligning it to the left margin,
when I check the preview it shows the new paragraph starting more than halfway across the page, for me to complete a site page I would have to preview and adjust virtually every sentence until it's in the correct place.
I understand you would have to make some adjustments, but not to this extent, this is extremely frustrating having to work like this.
Personally, I think if I do a page layout using my visual editor it should be near enough how I want it to look on my website.

now that my site is growing and gaining more content,
will i need to add a copyright to it and how do you do it?

Never heard of needing a copyright--not even in Kyle's classes!

Good question. I think google can quickly see who copies who online simply by date of publish. It might be offline entities that are the problem and as Ed says, difficult to monitor.
I threw this little snippet to the bottom of each page, along with my profile and affiliate disclosure. It will deter some, not all.
"Words herein are copyright of the Author, opinions are her own."
Go well from Janelle.

Everything you put on your site should have a copyright by default. To which grade/type I wouldn't be sure. I am with Eric (Rock On) on this. Don't be too concerned about it until you are getting Huge online or you have come up with a way to produce sustainable free energy!
Cheers
Darwyn

Thanks Darwyn.

I learned a lot about copyrights and what is really needed and not needed at the early stages of creation with my music and recording. I have copyrights on some and some I do not.

The burden always falls on the party claiming the right and they always have to prove that they created the work first. Damn near impossible in most cases.

I wonder too about those who commented here that they do have copyrights on their work ... the reasons I wonder is because it is quite a process to get a copyright and costs money.

E

I think it's the basic copyright text you get at the footer of your site they are talking about. Like you say Eric, who's to say without proof you created and not copied everything on it. Essential conduct with your music to have it copywritten though? One of those very grey areas.
Thanks for reply E.

Yes, I think many folks are fooled that THEY have a copyright because it says it at the bottom of the screen. Fooled they are.

Music is the same deal Darwyn. Years ago a poor mans copyright was to mail himself a copy of his music and then never open the package. The good old United States Postal Service did all the work there if you follow me.

I've also used sound recording copyrights as opposed to single song copyrights simply becasue I could copyright several works at one time.

You're welcome for the reply Darwyn, I appreciate you bringing up valid concerns that our community members may have.

E

How much time are you willing to spend pursuing justice if you suspect someone stealing your work? Is it worth it? Is the theft of your effort seriously hurting you? Would you be better served utilizing that time for more production. In my own situation, I can't imagine Im going to write anything so mind numbingly brilliant that it would be worth chasing down bad guys to get it back. If by chance I did, I could always do it again.

Hi Broderick, as I'm still relatively new here and in my early stages of training, I asked the question based on people copying and using it on their own sites, in the training we are told not to copy and paste from other sites as it will affect our ranking,
being dyslexic its taking me a hell of a long time and hard work to try and complete pages, so the last thing I want is my rank being affected, if I can get ranked at all that is..
if someone wants to copy my content because they think it's good, I must be doing something right, but if it affects my ranking, that's a different story..
I don't know enough yet to know how it works.

Time is not worth pursuing until your work is worth a great deal of money, at this point it's time to really pay attention to detail.

I have a copyright at the bottom of each page/post.

did you have to put it there yourself or was it included in your site theme

It's included in the site theme but has to be customized.

I do have copy right on my site but it is not to say that others wont take it as we would have to prove it was ours in the first place hopefully it will be ok

You'll be fine without one Tosh. Once you create a work it is owned by you and others would have to bare burden of proof that they own it.

Sure, when you get big, really big then you would start looking at copyrights, trademarks, registrations and such.

Looks like you're getting ready to beat the snot out of the ball with that driver! Nice!

ROCK ON!
E

Hi Eric, thanks for your help, with reference to my reply to Broderick below, it was aimed more at website ranking, as the training mentions, if you copy and paste content, google penalises you, that's why I thought sites have copyrights.
so still with little knowledge of how it works, I don't know how google will know who copies who.
The profile pic is a little reminder of what my goal is when things get difficult..
KEEP ROCKIN
Tosh.

Look at it this way Tosh ... if you create a piece of work right now and put it on your website and do not have a copyright - and then tomorrow I copy your work and put it on my site and claim that it is my own . . . they WILL know by date and time.

Yes .... date and time could be compromised and faked by hackers or very knowledgeable individuals .... but why would THEY want to copy your content.

Like I said earlier it is not a concern until you have something that others want to "steal" and the others have the knowledge, power and money to prove they created it.

It's just not a concern at this point.

Nice!

ROCK ON!
