Getting Dinged for Comments, Part II

A while back I shared that I was getting dinged in Google for the comments on my site. The error was the "hcard/author thing." Well, Kyle finally took a look and let me know that this was happening because I was creating pages, and not posts.

I think the majority of you are already doing posts for most of your content, so you should be fine. I've now started to add all new pages as posts. Maybe at some point I'll go back and change what's there, but 50 pages seems daunting at the moment.

I also re-verified my site with Google Analytics, and the errors dropped from 42 to 23, so apparently even my responses were showing up as errors, and the re-verification fixed half the problem.

Just thought I'd give you the latest scoop!

You mean you wrote every blog as a page on your website?

Yes, I did Gordi. I don't have a blog roll so I just kept adding pages. I won't be doing that anymore, though!

All you need to do is just click on "posts" then "new post" to add a new blog, not a page

Thank you for the heads up Sandy:)

Glad you found the problem and can start to fix it. If there's not a plugin, maybe just tackle one or two a day so it's not so daunting.

I don't know if this is the best way, but I've created pages for each of my categories using a "Page with posts" template. Then when I add something new to the category, I add it as a new post. I have a menu item for each category page with the posts below as drop downs.

Another great suggestion, I will check it out! Not sure if that's an option in my theme, but I'll check. Thanks!

I think there is a pages to posts plugin that will convert all your pages for you. I would make sure you have a backup copy of your website and database before using it though.

Thanks for the tip! I tried switching the template in my theme and when I did, the entire page disappeared! I'll check out the plug in!

I'm laughing here, I wish I'd thought about looking for a page to post plugin yesterday. "eye roll!"
