Sussing Out the Rhythm of Writing Redwoods
Since completing the River post series I've been pondering where I go next with my blog, LIFE-BUILT POEMS: Living Out Loud.
Right now I'm leaning towards starting another new lo-o-ong "symphony" dealing with another biggie thought-construct that has been a fascination for humankind forever...the one about the power of intention and how you can use it to manage the way your life flows.
I like writing long. I like writing in layers. I think I am getting better at keeping folks interested in what I have to say as I go along.
I've also been more than a little bit wasted by the effort of integrating all the goodies I gathered together the last time into one nice package, wrapping it up and tying it with a cute bow and all.
And, as usual, I've had to work on backing off and handling all the mundanities that arose as I struggled through my creative process.
I am learning about the rhythms of writing long.
If you're doing it old-style, you have to wait while you fill yourself up again, gather together stuff that you can use and let them all sit and marinate together in their own juices until you encounter the spark that helps to catalyze your latest pyrotechnics.
And while you're waiting for that to happen, you spend a lot of time wandering around doing other stuff that maybe might add something or other to the endeavor.
One thing I've been doing for a while now is selecting three of my older posts every week that I re-post and ask you guys to read and make comments. I've gone through my accumulated older writings a couple of times now and am starting in on going through them yet again.
One great side-effect of this practice has been that I've been able to review and revisit old thought-constructs and figure out whether they still hold true for me and for other people. I've updated and revamped some of the things as I go along and retired a bunch of others as well.
I see what I've done so far and look for ways to improve myself as a writer and that's been a good thing.
Incubation time. I do like it.
Hope your year's been treating you well.
