What is the real measure of success ?

I see new people come into the group all the time with one question on their mind. It is asked at the very least once a day. Although it is a great question, it is the wrong attitude to start off with when joining a group like Wealthy affiliates. The question is "when will I start making money".

Making money is not the sole purpose of this group, it is a side effect of all your hard work as you provide a customer with the information that they may be seeking. You are providing a service, a way to help someone.

With a group like Wealthy affilites you are not just making money, you are providing a service to help others.

If I take all the things that I have learned with the group so far then what is my true measure of success ? Sure I am still not Rich, but I have learned a tremendous amount in a short time in a real world situation where I have started the tiny steps to financial success. I have learned a lot more than I could ever imagine about my Niche and I have shared that information on my web site for the world to see. I now make enough to cover the costs that I have put out and have enough left over for a 6 pack of beer. I now have more drive and passion in what I am doing, and enjoy it. I wake up every morning excited to find out more about my Niche and put that information on my web page.

In the personal sense of the word, I have already acheived succcess. Thank you Wealthy Affiliates and everyone that is here, for making ME a success. I hope that in some small way, I have helped others as much as I have received.

G'day, Theron - a great post with many words of wisdom.

Setting up a website in 30 seconds and expecting money to flow soon after is a bit unrealistic - even for someone highly skilled in the dark arts of understanding IM. After 2 months at WA, I'm still going through a steep learning process, not having tried to set up an online business before. Lots of trials, lots of errors.

Help has been a one-way street, as I've asked for and received help from members on technical issues - but I'm not sure if I'm of any help myself. If, through encouraging others through my comments has been of some value, then I am well satisfied. Should some money start to flow in due course, I will be even more satisfied - but it's a long term project.

:) george

Theron, my friend your measure of success is right on. I have learned from you and so many here in our WA community.

For less than a buck a day I am hosted, given tons of training, comment/blog to a network of friends and given the opportunity to create my own websites with passion and with my own measurement of success.

Success is not how much money you make, success is in how much you make a difference in your life and in the lives of others. The creation of mutual benefit and trust is the sole purpose of our websites. Financial success is the side effect.

There are millionaires and celebrities I have met throughout my life, and would not trust them with it. Here in the WA community I trust hundreds, even Rich. ^_~

Hi Don... at the risk of sounding... well, practical, I fully understand what your saying and the point you're getting across.... but...

The very end result of ALL that is, and SHOULD be connected to WA is... 'making money'. That's what 'they' promote, no? Yes?

I strongly disagree with your statement that "making money is not the sole purpose of this group". It is not a "side effect". It is the 'result' of learning the business of making money online.

Yes, I see and understand the 'social' aspect of WA, and I think it's wonderful, and helpful.... helpful how? Well look at ALL the training... look at ALL the posts.... are they not in someway connected to making money? Of course they are.

Not ONE PERSON has come here nor stays here for the purpose of making good friends that they can just chat with...

And yes, I agree with what the 'approach', and 'attitude' should be in one's path to making money. Of course it is wonderful to make money while providing a service or solution to another's problem or desire, but the desired end result is the end result.

BTW, do you believe that Kyle or Carson would continue WA if they were only...

"making enough to cover the costs that I have put out and have enough left over for a 6 pack of beer"? as you stated above.

Yes, I'm sure they get great satisfaction in helping others to 'make money', but I do believe WA would disappear in a flash if the above were so....

We know that some jump over here and want to know "how much", "how fast" etc.... but that's only human nature. When they 'learn' what it takes, they'll make their decision...

Anyway, I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just as I said, 'being practical, realistic'.... The driving force that made WA what it is today was built on 'how to start an online business and make money', not, 'how to start an online business so you can help people'... even though that's what it will come down to... in time.... for some... for some...

Cliff

Everybody joining WA is hereby warned that they are sure to get a cronic disease called MAY I HELP YOU! and in all likelyhood they may have it's serious and severe side effects called MONEY.
All must join in after reading the above warning carefully. Tks.

lol great comment. Thank you georama. Even though I have been a member for almost a year and am not making a lot of money, I still feel like a success. I have made some great friends, taken advice as well as given it, and became part of an awesome community that has the sole purpose of seeing me succeed. And the premium rate is still cheaper than a psychologist.....Have a great weekend

Hey Don I am agrred with you 100%. WA no just $$$. Here we can learn and help other people and is good some people say "Thank you". I love that when I help a member :)

that is a good feeling when you can help others. Even though I am still at the point where I take in more than I give out, it still feels good when I can help someone else, no matter how trivial the problem.

Exactly Don. You are right. yeah some members think they are doing silly question and maybe the answer can help to improve something

I dont think about the money at all. Im to busy learning. Thanks for your thoughts

That is the remarkable thing about the WA community, all the training that you get and the help you receive. I have to brush up on the training at least once a month, then wash and repeat using the methods I have learned. It is a nice feeling to know that thousands of people are hitting my site for information, and are interested in what I have to say.

This is so true. I am so happy with my progress here even though I have not made a dime yet! I have created a website that I have received compliment on - something that was non existent only a month ago! I love helping and being helped and I have been honored to have been a part of both.

Give yourself a pat on the back my friend, because you are part of the community now also. The thing that makes WA so successful is every single person in the group. We all add to what makes WA so good.

Yep, success for each of us is different. Just like you say, I also might not be making money but a college professor liked my site and my content and had his class do a paper about it because he thought it was so well laid out and quality content.

That to me is a HUGE success!!!

That is awesome. It feels good when you see others sharing your articles and blog posts all over the internet. I almost fell out of my chair the first time I saw something I had written being shared. I couldn't believe that someone actually wanted to read what I had put out their.

And that is what keeps most people from starting anyways. They feel like they have nothing to offer or it is inferior information. That's sad I think that most people don't believe in themselves any more then that.

Very good point. If the focus is predominately on "When will I start making money?", it becomes that much easier to quit when dreams of massive wealth fail to materialize within the expected time frame.

I agree. Way too many people end up getting frustrated when they aren't making money right away, or have some sort of downfall. I truly believe that WA can work for me, and have seen small steps towards my end goals. Even after making dumb mistakes that could have been avoided and set me back, I keep plugging away at it. I am lucky because I have a good Niche that I have been passionate about for years, so that part was easy.

Very well said. I've always told my daughter to do what she loves and not worry about the money because if you do what you are passionate about, you will do it well and the money will eventually follow. I think everyone has their own personal definition of success that is unique to each individual. Great post, thanks for sharing!

Thank you. I look forward to getting up everyday and writing new content for my web sites. it is something that I am very passionate about. When I am not writing about it I am researching it and discussing it. So I might as well share it. I couldn't do that if my Niche was "dog collars".
