Who knew I would be here for 17 years? When I first joined, Wealthy Affiliate was a site that offered keyword training, and I joined for 6 weeks.

Today, reflecting on my journey, I see that it has been a bit of a roller coaster. I have learned how to buy and sell domains, which, for a long time, was the core of my business.

Now I realize I am approaching 70 years of age, and I still have over 500 domains. So, the objective now is to develop the sites and sell them. At the moment, I have four on the go. As soon as they make $100 a month I will sell them. Now is the time to downsize.

I have two domains that I have ad for over 20 years that will I hope be my retirement fund, but we shall see. Making money online has become more important to me as I have manages to lose two government pensions. (A story for Another day)

Developing sites now is so much easier with AI .

What is one of the most interesting things about having an online business I still get just as excited about making a sale as I did the first sale, although fortunately the sales these days bigger than the first sale. I can't exactly remember how much the first sale was but it was less than $1.50 I think.

What I realized though with that sale was the fact it was scaleable.

A very good friend taught me that just having hte first sale meant i had a hobby.

The trick was turning that hobby into a business.

So how did I turn it into a business?

Well I became a systems girl. I found out how to track where and what people were doing on my website. I learned which posts were most popular and I wrote more of that type of content. I learned profitable product creation. That was another roller coaster ride.

Once you know where the sales are coming from you can rinse and repeat. That is my takeaway from Wealthy Affiliate.

That is what all newbies will have to learn if they want to transition from a hobby to a business

I am not sure what to congratulate on first. 17 years is supposedly a long, and it is, but at the same time I know how fast it goes. The old saying, blink and miss it, seems to make more sense everyday.
And wow you have clocked up some websites. Who do you sell them through...or do you sell direct. I met a couple of people from Hostgator, I think. Anyway there are a lot out there.

I think you are spot on. Blogs and especially blogs that btell a good story are still the most popular. At least for me..

I hope you enjoyed your Amazon trip. Didyou do the ayahuasca thingy... I must do that one day..with a shaman.

Hey Catherine, the new comment caught my eye, and I reread this. You have hit the nail on the head, or me over the head with a hammer. Either way,

The system.

Amazing Catherine, Happy 17th Year! That is impressive, considering we have only been in business for 19 years...you are one of the originals! It has been an absolutely pleasure getting to know you over the years and you are a big part of the family and community here at WA.

Here is to your success moving forward!

And happy anniversary to you, too, Kyle. I remember you both without children and it is amazing how much the kids and the platform have grown

Good morning Catherine,

Congratulations on being at Wealthy Affiliate for 17 years, I must admit I didn't know you had been on the platform as long. You must be one of the longest serving members! I will have been here ten years in November.

It's wonderful that you have come so far, Catherine and learnt so much over the years.

500 domains is a lot of domains! I think my Webmaster has about 300 domains, which I thought was a lot, but 500 beats that big time!

Have a fantastic day.

Given my age I need to start making plans

I understand, Catherine, but you come over as someone much younger! You can certainly say that you have made the most of life, which is wonderful.

Have a fantastic day.

Roy

Wow! I tripped over the 17 years, but you had me at 500 sites. That can not be easy to manage even with a system. I would love to know more about the time it takes for you to ramp up a site to get it to a sellable size and the efforts involved.

MrDon

The majority of them are domains. They dont have sites on them it takes between four and six months depending on the niche to make them inetesting enough for people to buy them for future investments
