Researching posts makes me so glad I chose a familiar niche.

I can write posts fairly quickly since I mostly review products I am currently using anyway. I may need to research some information on the health and medical issues for cats but the products I know really well. The trick comes when the exact same product is no longer available and I have to figure out what is most similar and explain that in my review. Also it can be slow just to find the same product even if it is still available when I bought it in a brick and mortar store here but I want to find it online.

The seemingly simple product review I am working on now is taking more time to research than posts on pet health problems and supplements...go figure! Good thing I dividing this out and I can actually write the post tomorrow.

This reinforces the fact that it is SO much easier to write about a topic you are already familiar with! The more you know about it already, the easier it will be for you to do research, find products, be confident in your reviews, sound authentic to your audience and perhaps most importantly, keep adding content. If you are struggling to research and write about a topic you probably won't be able to keep up the pace of producing content as consistent and for as long as you need. You may struggle through ten posts taking several months and then just be burned out. You need to be able to continue producing content to make a viable website in most cases. There are a few sites that manage to be successful with a small number of posts but that seems to be extremely rare. Most will need consistent posting to stay highly ranked by the search engines.

I am not saying I am doing all of this myself. I have not posted as much as I should. I have not posted as consistently as I should. I have a fairly small number of posts (39 now I think) but have been lucky to be able to get sales starting when I just had a few posts. I would get a lot more traffic and sales if I had posted more. Also, I may have gotten sales with only 6-10 posts to start with but that would not be sustainable. Without adding new content, my rankings would tank and I would not keep getting sales.

Life comes up all the time and distracts us, it is HARD to keep adding content no matter what. Why make it any harder on yourself than it needs to be? Choose a niche you can write about with minimal research! I am not saying we don't need to provide good detail for our readers. I am saying if you are familiar with the topic you will have a huge head start and be able to pinpoint your research instantly because you already know which pieces you still need to learn more about rather than not even knowing what you don't know.

I am very glad I chose the niche I did so that I can make this process easier on myself. I have a full-time job and other obligations so I am glad I can keep up on my website too. I am seriously doubting if I would have kept it up if I had chosen a niche I didn't know about to start with. It also gives us amazing motivation when everything feels discouraging if we are sharing information that is important to us personally. When everything feels impossible I still want to get information out about pet health and behavior so I keep going. Being able to keep going is what will make us successful.

Thanks everyone,

Jessica

Thank you Carol. I become more glad all the time I chose the niche I did.

Great post again Jessica :-)
As you I choose a niche I’m very familiar with, travel and travel photography. It’s so much easier to write as you said. Today I wrote 3 posts (1500 words each). That was easily done!
